My old man just threw a crate motor into his '75. The original motor is all matching numbers with 100k on it. Anyone have any clue as to what it might be worth?
The engine is worth more to the car that it came out of. Matching numbers means exactly that. To another '75, the engine would be like any other non matching engine.
well, the guy that dropped my old man's motor in offered to knock some off the bill for the motor. The car itself is in great shape. But no where near worth keeping the original motor with it. What would you expect to get back for it?
if you end up selling the car, the guy buying it will most likely give you more for it if you have the original motor.
Well, my thinking is this. The car is far from being "pefect".Very nice. But no show car. So in the long run whos more likely to give ya more? A guy looking for an average matching #'s car and nothing more or a more than average looking Vette with 400hp and 400ft/lbs?
Keep the original motor. When you go to sell the car, the potential buyer will say, "but it's not the #'s matching motor", that's when you point to the corner of the garrage.
If you don't have room for the original engine or just don't want to bother with the "original equipment" thing.....sell it. You'll get a couple hundred or more and can buy some fuzzy dice for your car.

Keep it...even if you don't have room in the garage, put it out back, under a tree, in a garbage bag, with an old push mower tipped over it, but KEEP IT!
A little bit off the bill for another motor just isn't worth it. What's he really going to knock off for a tired 350?
