I have a quick question, I'm relocating rom KC to SLC in two weeks and having my 81 shipped to our new home in Utah. My company is having it done by a collector car carrier in an enclosed transport, which is pretty pricey and a nice gesture on their part.
Is there anything I shoud do to prepare the vette before they pick it up? Never shipped a car before, let alone a vette so any advise would be appreciated.
I just shipped my 68 from NJ to North Carolina and used Horseless Carriage. They are real pros! They ship a lot of high end cars, Ferraris, Lambos, so my 68 had to be one of the less valuable cars they have shipped. It came on time by itself in a 6 car enclosed carrier. The inside of this specialty trailer had a polished wood floor that looked like a gymnasium. Unreal. The car comes off an elevator platform in back that lowers the car to the street completely flat, so the car comes onto the street with virtually no incline.
I found that rates for an enclosed trailer were roughly double the quotes for an open trailer and Horseless Carriage was actually at the low end $wise.
I can't think of anything special you need to do to prepare your car. Is it a leaker? They say not to pack anything with the car. I threw in a gym bag with some car stuff and my car cover.
Thanks for the info, Horseless Carriage is who we're using as well. I can just see my 81 vette on a trailer with Ferraris and Lambo, got to get a picture of that!
That is definitely the best way to ship your car. Nice of the company to do that. Take photos and note mileage; check the car over visually (have photos for comparison) and note mileage immediately after they drop the car off the lift. If all is good, thank the driver for doing a great job!
