Some Bloomington Gold pics

My '58 at the 1958 GoldYear event:

Much better '58 than mine:

The only 2 triple black L88s ever made, at the Special Collection:

The insane storm during the auction, everyone getting out of their seats:

A little of the aftermath 5 minutes later:

and a tree branch landing next to my car during the storm:

Finally, the near-$3 million dollar bid on the 3 serial #001s- see the monitor:

When I took that picture in the tent, the lights were swaying on the poles and the people were a little freaked... the tent was moving to the wind. The auction was halted for about 5 minutes, then moved on.

That part of the country can get wicked storms/tornados. ....you were lucky your car wasn't damaged. I attended the Meadowbrook Concours outside St Louis a number of years ago and a tornado ripped through the area. Never been that close to a storm like that before....it wasn't a pleasant experience.
Me and my dad rode in on the bikes (about an hour ride) and got cought in the storm riding home. It just started to rain when we got on the bikes, and we got hammered for about 20 minutes.

Thanks for the nice words on the car, guys. It looked nice there under the trees in the grass. Pretty venue, with great cars. The silver blue fuelie was the real star although it did come in an exclosed trailer from Minnesota. I was thrilled to make the 400 mile jaunt in mine with no issues.
The first triple black L88 had a sign in front that said, "one of 2 made." Naturally the other one was 2 cars down! The main difference was one had louver inserts and the other didnt.
The look interested me as Im in the middle of having my '69 triple black painted right now. Has Rallys and redlines and looks a lot like these cars, only with a BB hood instead of the L88. Of course mine will be worth about $200,000+ less, but hey, what's the difference?
The L88 display was awesome.

Was there any serious damage?
