My car is far from a "base" car, but I have to share this with someone.
After two years of working on my car and only circling the cul de sac to keep things lubed, round and working; I decided that since everyone was shooting fireworks it would be ok for me to make some noise and smoke with my car. So from a 10 mph roll I mashed the go pedal and was immediately rewarded with the adrenaline rush I had been doing without. Spinning tires down the street until you are forced to let off(rear end coming around) is almost as good as sex! Matter of fact, I told my wife that we should do burnouts and then sex. Whew!
I can hardly wait until I get it painted. Gator79 get your gun ready buddy!
I can bark em pretty good with my L-48 195hp automatic. What Vette owner hasn't done this? I can't believe you needed a few beers to consider it. But best done without the beer, then after a few, you can sit around and talk about how you left forty foot of rubber and had to buy new tires.

lets see if the wife goes for that one, you needed that rush to keep you motivated. get that car ready and we can shoot it
Lol, you should have no problem burning out in first gear with a four speed. Hills are always nice, slightly backwards, rev to about 3000 rpm and dump the clutch, you'll spin em. I burned mine in the 250hp auto by making a hard left in a parking lot then punched it. I could keep it going from there. Looked damn impressive considering two cylinders were nearly dead at that point.
I have a '75 with the base engine and 4mt and yes, you can light up the tires. I haven't done a standing burnout, but I have revved the engine a couple times to get her rich and dump the clutch for a sideways launch. Works every time.
With a standard transmission, there's no way you can't burn out from a standing stop. Just rev the engine as high as you need to and dump the clutch. Can't guarantee that it will be a screaming sideways launch with clouds of rubber smoke, but you have to be able to squeal the tires that way.
BTW, since you've had a couple of brews, it might be best not to draw any attention to yourself behind the wheel. That's advice from a 63 year old kid.

(in 1968) I had a 1960 Ford Falcon 6 cylinder 3 on the tree I did this with. It works, however, one time I heard a bang and the rear ujoint snapped and the driveshaft came out slowly on the ground as the car slowly rolled forward to a stop.
a passer by watching this punk kid trash his $150 badass ride said it looked like it was pooping.
Make sure there is plenty of air in the rear tires (ie a pound or 2 over) so they don't hook up. Rev the sucker up and let that clutch out quick while dumping fuel. This all works even better on an ashphalt surface such as a parking lot that has been recenty resealed. The noise itself is impressive.
