Hey guys, Can someone tell me what the hood support screws, that go into the hood itself, actually screw into? I had my hood replaced due to A/C oil leakage through the fiberglass and the replacement hood has what appears to be rubber inserts that fit into those holes for the screws to thread into. The problem is that the screws will not tighten and eventually actually fall out of the hood. What is correct? Mine was a totally original '71 coupe with under 30000 mi. All else is as new. Thanks for the help..

Stock hoods have a metal plate glassed in that the screws thread into to hold it secure. After market hoods will either have a metal plate or bosses glassed it. Either way I don't see how plastic would cut it.
Wish I knew. Bubba at the paint shop "found it for me". He had put on a different later model hood support as well. Made him find my original on and put it back on.
Sounds like he used the same kind of inserts that the side mirrors use. No way will they be strong enough to hold the hood (without breaking the mount apart). You will have to rebuild it or take it to a competent body shop for repair.
