if it was, why would it have a 1975 convertible top?
also, i would doubt his knowledge. i think he is assuming that the 1981 came with a cross fire. it didn't. that was 82.

never heard of these before, but i could be wrong.

Did a quick internet search and found where this car is for sale in several different sites. One of the descriptions says the car is titled as a convertible. That would be different.

Never had seen anything in books magazines, ect. mentioning the story he gives for the car. May contact him to see if he has documentation to back up the story.

Nice looking car, but others have done the same thing.

I suppose the '82 emblems are part of the GM conversion?

I'm throwing the BS flag on this one.

PS, I had an '81 conversion... cool cars, but no phony stories, please.

Never heard of this, don't think it's something that GM backed. Could be a dealer did something on their own, but the parts look like they're from too many different years, more than likely somene's own chop shop job..........

The documention consists of "the car is factory" and "a guy called me". This is GREAT documentation and really adds to the value of the car.

Funny enough, I've heard this story before. That doesn't make it true though.

Nice enough car, especially with the 4 speed. Engine needs detailing at the very least. I think it's a little high as far as the price goes, but not grossly so.

I wouldn't have a problem with buying this car on it's own merrits, but forget the story as it couldn't really be supported with documents. It isn't a Callaway conversion or an RPO. Just a fairly neat 81 with a very nicely done conversion.

so there was some. but this wouldn't be one. everything was widened on the factory made one, according to the article. (rear, front fenders)
this one just looks like a stock 81, made into a convertible.

...or an '81, like the subject of this thread.

Is he thinking of the Duntov Turbos? Nah, he's making it up.

I should have made up a good story, too...

Whoops, didn't realize that link was re: the Duntovs before I posted above.

They were all white with red, nothing like the BS car here.

Default Our Original Corvette Convertible Ha!

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF OUR ORIGINAL 1980 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE. WE ALSO USED A 1975 CORVETTE TOP AND AN AFTERMARKET REAR DECK PANEL WITH OPENING FOR 78 82 GAS TANK. WE HAVE ONLY BEEN WORKING ON THIS SINCE 1986 AND HOPE TO GET IT FINISHED SOMETIME THIS CENTURY. EVERY BODY USED 1975 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE PARTS (NEWEST AVAILABLE THAT WOULD FIT)

Default A few answers

I am the owner of the corvette in question. I was contacted by a person who viewed these posts. It seems you guys have some opinions in regards to the 81 I have on Ebay. I think foremost it should be noted that I am not asking more because of the car’s history. The car is what it is… If I had more verifiable documentation I would be asking A LOT more money. I bought the car because I loved the car, not it’s “story”. But, I think there are a few accusations here that can be easily answered. 1. The top is a 75 top because it was the last year that the convertible top was made… why would any other top be used? 2. Of course there is no black book listing, there is also none for the Duntov Turbo Vette mentioned in this thread. But that car exists. Also, some of the Shelby Mustangs are not listed…but Carol built them! 3. The 82 emblems were on the car when I bought it 15 years ago – NO chop shop here. Furthermore it is not a GM conversion, it was sent to Perfection Auto in Moody Port British Columbia. ( Phill Hardy was the owner of Perfection Auto at the time). 4. My ad reads “no crossfire” because I know that was started in 82 and I’ve been asked that question several times. The 81 was the first year of fuel injection. 5. Grant- the reason you cannot find where 82 had a convertible is because they didn’t have a convertible in 82.

I welcome anyone who is interested to do their due diligence (I was told that a historical package could be ordered from GM Canada, I was given the name George Zambora). Any information gained that supports the history I have been given only increases the value of the car. Thanks.

If this was something that I was looking for I would place a bid. Even the starting bid does not seem all that bad. I like the car and it does appear to be in good condition.
