Maybe someone can straighten me out on this one...
I own an early (1st design) 79 which came with the three door rear compartment assembly with cut pile carpet. Each door has a latch and a finger pull. It seems that every "major player" catalog that I've looked through only sells the early 79 (pre-assembled) three door compartment assembly without the latch and finger pulls (just has blank carpeted doors), but yet they sell the late (2nd design) two door rear compartment assemblies with the latches and finger pulls. Yet, if you were to buy the the three individual doors for the early 79, they come with the holes - ready for the latch/pulls. What gives?
I noticed the same thing last year when replacing my 79 storage doors.
I ended up buying the later model 2 door assembly from one of the vendors. Pulls are molded in and I was able to use my old locks.
I installed the latch\pulls from my old compartment into the new one when I re-did the interior. The holes are in the frame, you just have to cut thru the carpeting. Easy job.

Are you looking for the doors? Latches? Pulls? Go with the 78 or earlier stuff. Nothing much changed in the three door set up from 68-79 early other than the composition of the doors (pressboard in 68; plastic later on) and the pulls (loop or metal). I'm running the metal pulls on my '68 doors.
Thanks for the replies. It's not that I can't add the latches and pulls - I agree that this is a relatively simple thing to do. What I don't get is the logic behind the suppliers. You can buy the doors individually with the latch holes in place, but yet there are no holes in the pre-assembled units. From a production standpoint, I assume that the doors are all made from the same tooling (if they're plastic) which would include the latch hole. It's not a big deal mind you, but it doesn't make much sense....
Also, I can understand a difference with the particle board doors. With them, it's just a matter if the hole is drilled (or punched) or not. But the plastic door requires a mold, and it doesn't make economical sense to have two molds - one with a hole and one without. Obviously you can buy the doors individually with holes - my point of this thread is since these doors with the holes obviously exist, why don't they use these same doors on the pre assembled units? They do this with the two door units. That's what I don't understand....
