ok I had alot of trouble trying to get to the casting number, it's just to tight of a space.

I did manage to get the number of the front pad on the passenger side though.Or at least I think I did, it said

K06 30 CGC

Does this tell us anything?

K = McKinnon Industries (engine build plant)
0630 = June 30, 1971 (engine build date)
CGC = 1971 350ci Impala, Chevelle or Camaro 245hp
L65 3Spd or TH350 trans 2Brl carb Hyd Cam

Casting number is probably 3970010 ...

------------------------------------

Yes, that's a strange looking build stamp. I really haven't seen all that
many McKinnon stamps to render a verdict, but find it hard to think
otherwise. Who would want to restamp a 245hp with automatic tranny anyhow??
The intake manifold 3919803 is vintage 1968 327/350ci, so junkyard artwork
is as good a description as any ...

Agreed that is what it would translate to but that does not look like a typical factory stamp, even from the McKinnon Ontario plant. Possibly a rebuilders stamp? There does not appear to be a partial VIN which should be there if it's a 1971 build, and the oil filler tube/intake manifold/valve covers are way older than 1971.

What type of carb is that?

Could be a mishmash junkyard special- who knows?

1968 was the last year for the oil fill in the intake. '69 Z28 intakes have the hole still there but filled with a "freeze plug".

I agree on the junkyard artwork conclusion. The casting number did turn out to be 3970010. I'm guessing these are really common cores? Anyway thanks for helping me guys

Okay, but that doesn't mean you cannot pull and replace it, or pull and rebuild it, or just drive and enjoy it. Just think how sweet that 57 would sound with a ZZ4 350/355 with Hooker Headers and a Flowmaster exhaust system. Whatever you decide to do I hope you all enjoy playing with it and rebuilding it back to get her on the road.

Best regards,

David
