You can drill a couple index holes thru the hinges into the hood(1/8" or smaller) to aid in the reinstall.

I lay the hood on the car, align it all around with cardboard shims and install and tighten the hinge bolts from the bottom.
The hood is pretty heavy and an odd size to manage by yourself. Two people is a must, in my book. As mentioned, mark the position of the hinges. If you decide to put a pilot drill in the hinge/hood, make sure you use a stop collar with your drill (or it could just come out the top of the hood ).
The last time I took my hood off, I did it by only myself. The hood is not heavy at all, and its in a asize that you can easily and firmly grab it up. You have to be very careful not to scratch the paint, use some rags or towels in the hinged area.
