Default Help!!!

Hey!

In the middle of complete resto on my 77.A few questions.

1 May sound stupid 77 vette orange or blue block?

2 The last owner painted the interior white,Can i remove the paint without damaging everything. The interior is out, and on my basment floor.
O they also painted the brown leather seats, everything done with a spray bomb.

3 I can't afford a trip to get the frame blasted or to get it dipped. I have been grinding and buffing down to the bear metal. No rust left on the parts i do.Will this be good enough. The frame is soild.

Any ideas help and suggestions would be good!!still learning alot from you folks.Good stuff here.

1) To my knowledge only early 77’s came with the Chevy Orange painted engines. Late cars came with the corporate blue.

2) On some items you may be able to remove the white. It will not be easy and you’ll just have to try some reducer and see what happens. Best case is you salvage some parts.

3) Will grinding and buffing be good enough? If this is what you can afford then is surely is good enough. It’s old school, and for older restorers it was the only way to do things. Personally, I would prefer to acid dip the frame. In most cases you’ll find restorers sending the frames to powder coaters. They seem to run $600.00-$800.00 and you can usually get all the frame parts done. (A-Arms, rear end cross member, and so on).

The down fall to grinding and/or powder coating is that nothing on the inside of the frame is treated. Any hidden problem will surely show up sooner or later.

If you are grinding this frame it will probably come out looking better than anything GM ever produced and will more than likely last you longer than you or I will ever be around to see.

IMHO,

Willcox

Like willcox said early 77's were orange. Easiest way to tell early from late is the early 77's had the alarm lock in the drivers side front fender. 77 was a pretty unique year for corvette there are so many one year only parts on that car. I did the same thing with my frame and I coated my frame with the por15

I also am doing a frame up on my 77. Mine is a 77E. Alarm switch is in the fender. My engine had been rebuilt before I got it, but mine is Orange.
