Battery swap question

Kind of silly question.

I need to replace the old battery on my '71, but I have a concern about physical fit. I heard the battery should not be too big or too small to fit in the compartment..
Every online site offers the search function based on the year, make, model etc... but did any of you experience that they said it fit, but actually didn't fit ?

In my 78, a Sears Diehard Gold fit fine per the "search lookup". Take some measurements if you want to be sure.

The question I have about replacement batteries is " do they have an indentation low down on the sides so the hold-down clamps will be able to be used"?
