I just removed a hot water shutoff value because it went bad, and replaced it with a section of heater hose.
Now, the shut off value was attached right to the block, close to were the fuel line attaches to the carb. The carb was replaced by the PO, and I guess the pipe fuel line didn't match the new carb, so it was cut, and a small section (about 5") of rubber fuel line was used to connect the fuel line to the carb.
Since I replaced the shutoff with heater hose, this section of heater hose, touches the rubber section of fuel line. I do plan on replacing the fuel line, but I want wait until I ind a numbers correct carb first.
I don't think this would be a problem (other than maybe vapor lock), but I wanted to be sure no one thinks that this could lead to failure of the rubber fuel line, and me destroying my car!
Won't be much of a problem. If you're worried though, use two small sections of corrugated plastic wire loom on the tube where they touch so there are layers of the plastic loom keeping the two separated.
