Well, this has probably been done before, but to me, a Coupe is the way to go. Take the T-tops out along with the back window, and it's just as good without fading tearing or expensive replacement every so often. Not to mention theft with just a knife!

Coupes are better, that's why they cost more when they were new. Small block 4 speed coupes are the way to go. But, have you ever driven a big block convertible? It's a different animal.
I say it depends how you plan to use the car...
If you're a fair weather cruiser then the vert is the way to go.
Even with the T-Tops off and the rear window out there's no comparison to having the whole top down on a beautiful sunny day!
If you're going for the muscle car/hot rod then I'd go with the coupe.
I love my Vert and will have it till I die. However, if the world does not come to an end in the next few years (stock market and global depression), my plans are to buy a 73 coupe to go along side my 74.

Same thing here - the 68 (vert) is for cruising and shows, the 80 (coupe/swapped in a 406) is for the track and road courses. I went with the 80 for a track car because it's a little more aerodynamic and handles better than the earlier years.
I like the C3 chrome bumper shape, doesn't meter if it's coupe or vert I like both of them.
I have 68 coupe & working on 72 vert (frame off) that I hope to finish next year.

Theft with a knife yes BUT if you have the hard shell for the vert you need a pretty big knife
My vote is for the convertible all the way, but if I could afford it I would like a coupe to match
If I am reading this right you are talking about removing the back window. Look at the car on this thread. It's a vert, or coupe with t-tops. Pretty cool looking but alot of work.
No brainer... convertibles (not "verts" ) look 100% better, are a ton more fun to drive and beat coupes to death in resale.
Compare sales of '68-'75 coupes to convertibles... sometimes it seems you can't give the coupes away.
And it's refreshing to see that someone knows how to correctly spell convertible with an ( I) instead of an (A) . In any other situation an A would be correct, but for some reason the car companies always spelled it with an I, so believe it or not that is correct. And as to verts, anyone under 40 would probably refer to them as verts, but i'm with you, mine will always be a convert( i )ble.

The reason the coupes sell for less is because there are more than 3 times as many of them made. In 68 and 75 there were more convertibles sold than coupes, but in 69-74 there were always significantly more coupes sold than verts - sometimes 3 or 4 times as many.
I think it's more about drivability. When you were buying a "new" Corvette it was probably your daily driver, and convertibles weren't always desirable as DD's. Today the verts are more in demand because they spend more time in the garage than out in the weather. Even if I wasn't a purist I couldn't see myself driving the 68 to the office every day and sitting out in the rain, getting tree sap on it, etc. But I drove the 81 everywhere in all kinds of weather for years.

The picture of it should be on the last page, 9 i think it is.
this one was mine on page 9 it was the best of both worlds. lol
but as far as this poll i would say didnt GM stop making convertible c-3??? hum wonder why...
in my opinion they made the decision on which is better in the public eye but the way i look at it is convertibles are cool to look at and drive and coupes are great but it is the individual who ownes the car and makes it thiers either by restoring to original or customizin it. Its what makes the owner happy thats why they buy the car they do.

Reason: sorry for my spelling of convert(i)ble
Convertible all the way for me. I had a '78 coupe and still have a '69 drop top. I'm 6'3" and in the '78 with the tops off, my top of my head would stick out of the top. With the hatches locked in, I had to stoop my down and it was uncomfortable. With the tops locked in and the windows up, it was claustrophobic. With my '69 that's not an issue. Even with the soft top up in the '69, there's more headroom due to the top being much thinner than the removable hatches the '78 had.
The turbulence inside the '78 with the hatches off was far worse than the '69 with the top down. I've never lost anything being drawn out of the convertible but have had that happen several times in the coupe. The wind noise level in the convertible is less than the coupe was.
When it comes to all around visibility between top down and the coupe...no comparison.
