I started hearing about this down at the tent, but with that many people, it was hard to tell what was fact and what was fiction! I knew I'd get the info here!
There was also a 77 from Baltimore that blew his engine, but he said that was nothing compared to this. I hope Bob gets another one soon!

Dave
Dave i just went and saw it first hand this morning, nothing left of it,but yes Bob is ok and WE lol will be looking for another this week to replace it.And whatever he gets if it needs anything ill be there to help him for sure.
Sorry to see this. I know he is devastated. The good thing is that no one is hurt. As much as we all love our cars, they can be replaced (that's what we pay insurance for). I agree with the poster that said that cars can be replaced, people can't.
Bob just stopped by the showroom with some more pics including one from the junk yard this morning. That was one hot fire. The engine pratically melted!!! He's OK and waiting on the insurance company and is already thinking about his next car!
He also said that he thnks it was a break line because when the smoke started he went to pull over and didn't have much breaks. Then when be opened the hood, the fire was under the engine which is why he couldn't get to it with his extinguisher.
Perhaps somebody can give us an autopsy report and prevent something like this from happening.
Brakes? or something in the bearing, hub, rotor, etc?
Hmmm,..would like to know.
Very sad though. My heart goes out.
Honestly when i went to see it today you cant tell what happened.at first i thought the stainless braided brake hose let go on drivers side but when i pulled on the other side it fell apart so the heat just melted them.I dont think well ever know for sure.Heres a shot this morning.thats me checking things out.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2356...52841409ZQowsA
Our family was caravaning to AC for a family get together Saturday morning and we saw many Corvettes traveling to AC as well. I remembered that there was a show and of course it all fit.
As we got close to AC the traffic slowed to a crawl and soon we saw smoke in the distance. In the back of my mind I kept hoping it wasn't a Corvette, but as we all know anything can happen on one of these classics. That's about when we saw this.
The only way I could identify it as a Corvette at a quick glance was the halo over the seats and one rear rally wheel was visible... my heart sank.
In minutes the family was calling the car to find out if I was okay... they too realized it was a Corvette and knew I would be upset... My fear was that a small fuel leak and no fire extinguisher resulted in a lost Corvette. I'm pleased to learn the circumstances were not the result of poor planning and it could happen to almost anyone.
Here's hoping it all works out for Bob and he ends up with an even better C3 than before...
