I am taking down my 72 LT1 to the frame to begin restoration.
On the area in front of the hood there are raised areas over each underlying fastener .Could this be due to shrinkage of the glass or
swelling of the rivot from corrosion. No cracks are evident.
Has anyone seen this before.Thanks

Sounds like you'll be replacing the header bar as part of your restoration. The rivots are corroding and pushing up against the surround panel. Have a look at the support bar holding up the headlights. You will likely have to remove and replace it.
Search for Header Bar Replacement. A lot of guys here have documented this repair.
Hi one-72,
I agree that very often it is rust on the header bar, but not always.
On my car the header showed no sign of rust anywhere and the fellow who advised me as I did the body work felt it was shrinkage, and that a thin skim coat of filler was what was needed as a fix. I'm usually a big believer in 'better safe than sorry', but this time I listened to him.
3 years later he's still right.
How much do they show, what does the headlight bar look like, and how lucky do you feel?
Regards,
Alan
Thanks guys for the info. I pulled engine and drivetrain and got up under there for a good look . looks like header bar needs replacing after all. I,m back to work now
Thanks again.

Maybe not, unless there is fiberglass showing through to the rivets and the bar is exposed. A GOOD glassman can repair most of those cases without tearing the header out. We did. There are about 34 bumps total in two rows all across the section. Headlights were not removed either. Heres the proof.
