It's a big job. I am in the middle of my first frame off. Funny but it did not cost anything to take apart, it is costing a fortune to put back together!
I don't know about you, but I am your basic backyard mechanic. Once I got it apart I realized that I would have to farm out some of the work like rear end rebuild, trailing arm rebuild, A arms, and a few others. Just did not have the equipment to do it in the home garage.
It is a big job,and expensive once the putting it back together starts, but I go this stuff all the time by myself, and w/a engine hoist.Be sure to support the frontend, bud.
Hi JB,
I used jacks to take the body off the frame. I jacked one side and then the other until it was high enough to roll the chassis out from under. I made some blocks of wood to slip up under the birdcage siderails, next to the frame rails.
Regards,
Alan

Hi DW,
Yes it was a trip.
As usual I was working by myself so I had to figure out how to do it a little at a time and without a chance of it falling on me. Also, at that point I didn't have an engine hoist yet, so that wasn't an option.
God looks out for the young and the innocent, and as I found out the old and the naive.

Alan
Actually I did the same thing, I got the body ready with 4x4's, jacked it up 1" each side.
I prefer it that way nice and slow, I also installed the 454 with no hoist. !
Jacked the frame up , rolled the motor under the frame, into place then jacked the frame into place and bolted in the motor, both worked pretty well.
Rolling chassis makes a great motor stand ! 69VETT
