I have a 71 LT1 coupe project that I am parting, and the tank in the car has 2 nipples on the top side of the passengers side.I guess,a LT1,and other single fuel line cars are suppose to have no nipple there, and the car equipped w/2 lines(fuel/return) should have 1 nipple.So....what gives? It very much appears to be untouched, and the original piece, but that isn't confirmed, nor guaranteed.
Thanks.....
I can't swear that ithasn't,but everything looks to be original under there, and some light surface rust on the tank that is consistant w/the rest of the underside. It looks original.?????
Thanks.
Hi VBD,
I believe in 1971 an LT-1 car had a tank with 1 supply line and no return line on the passengers side. So no nipples on that side of the tank. (Except for the nipple on the sending unit.)
The drivers side should have the nipple and mount for the vapor return line.
This is the valve on my 71, 350/270, and shows the nipple on the driver's side.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan.I am just stumped w/the 2 nipples on the passenger side.I called my mentor who has been doing this many, many years and he is baffled as well.I have some here w/the return line nipple on the passenger side, but none w/2 over there.
I had it forsale, but found another nipple in the front on the lower side where they had a line to a electric fuel pump, and filters it looks like from the brackets under there. You can tell this one has been added on.Anyways....good if someone was wanting to go racing, but no good to someone wanting a correct LT1 tank.Oh well....
Thanks for the input guys, and the help.

is the tank sticker there? If the tank is in such great shape then one would think the original sticker would be there.

No...the tank sticker isn't there,or I would have never parted the car.It is a VERY solid car,but was a theft recovery car,and the police PEEEELED the rear deck to get at the numbers. The guy I got it from sectioned in a partial rear deck.
I did have a brain storm today......."hmmmm....I wonder if the police have the built sheet?
Dont mean to hyjack but since you guys are talking gas tanks.Does the LT1 your working on call for a vented or sealed gas cap?I have a 70 350-350 without EEC that I'm working on and Gm calls for a sealed non vented gas cap.The tank only has one nipple for the fuel return....How does air get into the tank when fuel is being removed? I cant help but think this tank should have had a vented cap on it.
