I saw an NCRS member was looking (in drivetrain) for interior parts---1971 dark green--because they are not available. Is that true???? I see green parts in paragon, midamerica, etc but maybe they are the wrong color of green. Has anyone with dark green interior bought any interior parts---did they match in color??? Thanks--I have a 1971 with dark green interior.
Since I have a 71 with green interior and have bought a few pieces and also bought dye from Ecklers and corvette america. GOOD luck !!! The piece i have bought to color look goood but can tell they are aftermarket. The green is mixed with a black pattern from a distance you cant tell. Dye forget it unless you get lucky. Ecklers dye (qt & Spray) was so far off almost think it was a 70 color and was told by them it is what it is Then bought Corvette America is closer but can tell it's been dyed.
DO NOT BUY VINYL DYE FROM MAIL ORDER SUPPLIERS!! Many of these outfits are selling paint that has been re-labled. Go to a auto paint supply house (where the pros get their paints) and they can mix up vinyl dye to the GM interior code OR to match a part you bring in. I have used SEM dyes and they are great! Why take a chance? Go to the right place to get it.

Wallifishrmn,
I was at Corvettes @ Carlisle this year and looked at some original '71 dk green interior pieces. Here is the vendor that has them. Corvettes Unlimited, 266 Rt 109 West Babylon, NY 11704. Phone is (631) 661-1000
If the '71 is like the '70, the correct green is/was no longer available and any dye job will be instantly ascertainable.
In the '70 the threads that run through the panels are a lighter shade of green. If you dye any other color you will not end up with this shade of thread. To make matters worse, and call attention to this fact, is that the dye "glops" in these threads so is visually obvious and they lose their thread "feel."
1971 dark green interior is very different from the medium green interior of 1970. The 1970 insert comfort weave vinyl is different in shade from the perimeter seat vinyl color shade. 1971 does not have that difference.
toddalin... Vinyl dye can be mixed in ANY color. And, vinyl dye will NOT fill surface grain...only paint will do that. Have you ever really applied any vinyl dye (other than the mail ordered spray cans of "paint" which are labeled as 'dye')?

Sorry but you miss the point. Sure surface grain may not be filled, but I'm talking about the real thread (like sewing thread) that runs though the '70 panels.
How would you do the entirety of the console/dash pad/etc. in one shade of green but do the threads that are sewn through these panels in another shade?
And how are you going to put dye on thread without it glopping?
Yes, I did have my center console on my green '70 dyed by a professional (Corvette Mike) and yes the threads still glopped.
Some colors are not reproduced due to lack of popularity. I ran into that with another project. '69 Camaro Medium Green Comfortweave seat covers are shown in all the resto parts catalogs BUT nobody actualy produces them. Probably for good reason - it's a pretty darn ugly light pea soup green.
I converted it all over to black and white houndstooth.
And BTW - SEM dye is the best I have found. It's all in the prep.
The stitching in the panel may not take dye the same way as the panel itself. That may be why the original has a little different shade of green stitching. If it were me, I'd dye the panel and leave it at that. If you want an NCRS "winner" you probably need new panels anyway. But, since you can't get new ones in that color.......
