Default New paint

I've got a 73 roadster (both tops) and it's currently a white pearl. I'm looking for a change in color. I've got some ideas but I'd really like to hear from other C3 owners.

What, in your opinion, is the best color for an early model C3?

Your best bet would be to paint it the original color

* mine is in the process of being painted the original pewter silver*

Red looks very nice.

My 73 was originally Metallic Yellow, but some one painted the car red. It is in the body shop now, and I am planning on sticking with the red, because it looks so good on the car. I had a black Baldwin Motion stripe picked out for the car, but I may just stick with solid Millie Miglia Red.

My 82 was black, and it is going to stay black. You loose a lot of definition with black or white, but when it is clean, it looks great.

My 72 is currently red, but it was originally white. Wehn I get around to painting it, I think I am going back to the Classic White it once was. maybe with a balck stripe or something.

Daytona Yellow looks great on the early Vettes.

I love black on a vette, but if you want something that looks black until in the sunlight, Cadillac used a black cherry on some of the cars of the eighties that absolutely looks black unless in the sun then has a slight red/ burgandy-wine cast. I used it on a 30 Ford streetrod pickup and people at cruises would comment, I thought your truck was black or I thought your truck was burgandy, depending on the light.

Black seems to be a popular answer. What are everyone's thoughts on a blue?

What's your goal? Are you trying to stand out in a crowd, get noticed at a stop light, woo the girl next door
Go to a Dupont auto paint store, they have old books with paint chips, look at Chevy colors and go from there. They can even put a color in a spray can for you to test on a part, then you can hold it up next to your car, good luck....

Those are very good questions. I do want my car to stand out.

I've mulled over many shades of blue, Steel Cities Grey, even gold and silver. Whichever color I go with will have pearl in it.

I'm just thinking there are other ideas... from the outside looking in... I like the diverse opinions I read on this forum.

The car is my baby... I'd like to do it right.

Not exactly sure. It was originally Bridgehampton but when it was painted in 1988, they changed it.

On the paperwork I have for the paint job, it lists 2 qts DBV 4106 blue and 2 qts DBV 3967 blue.

Black is nice, but it sure shows any swirls in the surface and daily dust more than Red or a light/medium shade of Blue.

If there are any C3 Vettes nearby, like at a dealer, your best bet is to compare colors side by side. That will really give you an idea of what stands out or appeals to you.

You haven't mentioned the color of your interior. I'm sure you wouldn't want blue if you have red interior now. Or would you ? I just remembered , they are using red/black interior with yellow outside on the new vettes.

Yet another good question. My interior is black. So I'm confident any paint scheme will work.
