Default 1980 Corvette rebuild.

Wow this is going to be a long winter. So far i have taken the entire rear suspension out of the car. I am going to drop the gas tank next and then remove the fuel lines and start the cleaning process. I will paint the floor of the car and the frame. The all the new suspension can go back together. The plan goes something like this.

1- Rear suspension

2- Fuel System

3-Front suspension

4-Transmission rebuild.

5- Exhaust system

6-Wheels and tires

7- Interior upgrade.

8- Motor swap

It looks Like you have a bit of work ahead. I did this last winter (rear suspension). It turned out great! You should be happy with yours! Good Luck!

Awesome pictures, thank you for posting them. I have 2 questions. How did you get the old bushings out of the rear cover mount, and how did you build your exhaust? I like the way you ran your pipes. is that a custom built exhaust?

Pulled the gas tank out this weekend, and found the build sheet up under the tank lol. I was surprised to see it still in the car. The car was built in St Louis, and shipped to Victoria BC Canada.

Nice project

If you need help with rebuilding your trailing arms, just PM me. I've already rebuilt mine and wouldn't mind lending a helping hand if you have any questions.

Got my parts back from Bairs Corvettes today. The trailing arms look great, and the other parts look top notch as well. Will get some pictures posted as soon as i can.

Did my T/A's last year. Nothing like a clean rear end.

Smells good too.

Lots of gear ratio's are tough to find now due to backorders, I don't think Motive is the only one. Looks like the project is coming along a lot quicker than mine

Grumpy, I have a question you might a able to help me with. I have a 1980 L48 also an I'm looking at the picture of your engine, but I can't see the wires comming across from the drivers side behine the Alt. over the valve cover one wire goes to the choke(Blue) and the other wire(green) plugs into what? Mines just lies thier pluged into nothing.
Any Info. would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well i decided to skip the 3.55 gears and stay with the 3.08. Lower RPM at cruising speed = better gas mileage.I got the tranny out today, and ordered a B&M 2000 stall converter. The tranny is off to get rebuilt, the lock up is going to be deleted. The motor will come out next, and get tucked away. Once the motor is out the frame and body mounts will get dome same with the floor.

I got my tranny back this week, stayed with the lock up deal. The converter is at the local tranny shop getting reworked. They braze the fins, and will try to get me an extra 500 stall rpm out of it as well. The motor will be coming out next, then lift the body to change the mounts to polly mounts.

Got the tranny and converter back. Stayed with the lock up deal. The converter was cut open, furnace brazed the fins, cut down the stator, and made it into a 1800-2000 stall.

Thanks. Yes its going well. I have hit the body mount section of the project, and its a bastard. I got all my parts back from the bead blaster, brackets pulleys and drive and half shafts. Everything is now in primer. Once i get the diffy back this week i will prime that then start painting everything.
