Default One Book Left

This is the end of How to Restore and Modify Your Corvette, 1968-1982. My publisher had told me that they will not do another printing of this book. In this economy they simply can't justify the cost of another edition. Amazon has one copy left. Other vendors may have copies in their inventory.

Some of the used book dealers have already jacked the price up to $40.00 for a used copy.

It was one h*ll of a run with this book. I can't thank all of you enough for your support. I still remember people asked me why in the world I would write a book about the C3 (a term which didn't even exist at the time). I was told they were junk Corvettes and no one would ever restore one, let along consider them of any value.

I guess the experts were wrong on that.

Again, thanks for your support.

Richard - Thank you! I first got your book about 10 years ago when I got my first C3. I think it is one of the best in the entire C3 bookcase. Now mine has pages falling out, generous post it notes, and lots of my written notes throughout.
Thanks again!!!

Bummer! Excellent book. I've used it, given it as gifts, and recommended it many times.

It was one of the first books I purchased when I got my 76. I've read it several times cover to cover.

Thanks Richard - guess you proved them all wrong!

Happy Holidays

Gentlemen and the few Ladies Present:

In 1993 I formed a much different opinion of this author's method of operation and actual experience. My own personal experience led me to these conclusions, not someone else’s recommendations or some chat room chatter. I found the author presenting sham information that was completely contrived. Not a shred of credible evidence presented then or ever to support some of the fabricated statements about Corvettes and their reproductions.

There were much fewer manufacturers actually producing C3Corvette parts in 1993 when I was first solicited and became aware of this authors research technique. I will ask him again “since you have been down that road before” and since you wrote those statement – where exactly did you get those vacuum hoses with taped on stripes? Surely you can remember exactly what source provided them as with the other parts that were mentioned by source.

In all honesty I did not read this entire book, but rather only excerpts. However I realized the value of the content did not merit further exploration. I did read every magazine article that led to this “book” and concluded this was primarily a book for those who knew very little about Corvette’s and therefore could not challenge the validity of the information presented. The publisher has done us all a favor by eliminating this source of weak merde.

Several years ago on the Vette Net I read this author chiding another author (Hib Halverson) about receiving freebies and then publishing impartial material. That’s when I published the following on the Vette Net. http://www.oosoez.com/dr-r-web/newton.html
Read that if you want to see how a flip flopper changes his tune.

I can tell you Doc that you are known as the jack *** of all corvette vendors. I dislike your web site, your Broads that know nothing and all of your collective atitudes towards customers. Sick of hearing about your injustices.
This thread is not about hoses or the size and color of the stripes that are on them.

I don't usually take a stand on a lot of things, but feel here, I cant be silent. Mr Newton, I have your book, and even though I consider myself a pretty accomplished wrench, I do find your book helpful. Mr Coenen, your product line I know to be first class, and you have a lot of items that many other vendors don't have, but with an attiitude like that, I find it hard to buy from you.

I see nothing wrong with presenting verifiable facts about events that occurred. Long ago I learned that if you make any statement that is false, it could become an expensive burden later. And thus I have never been a defendant in any manner for any statement whatsoever which I freely publish in print. And I will admit some may seem outlandish - but I assure you I have verifiable material on every event. I don't sugar coat it, embellish it or have to lie about any of it.

If you cannot tell the truth about an event that is either lying or censorship. I stand by any statements I have make and I even sign my own name and fear not any repercussions. You cannot even sign your own name.

Wow! I don't have the book and probably won't look for it. But, one guy writes a thread to thank folks for supporting him during the run of that book.....and another guy uses that thread merely to give a him "blast from the past".

I guess, bitter is as bitter does.

I bought the book, read it from cover to cover in one day, and returned it the next day. To me it was useless. FWIW.

No offense Mr. 79vetter fella - where exactly were you in the Corvette hobby in 1993 when the event I described transpired? Or for that matter in 1983, or 1973? My “roots” in Corvettes only goes to 1963 as an enthusiast, and shortly thereafter as an owner and occupation. However it has been over seven years now that I have really worked for a living. (Money is not the end all objective I have discovered after 30+ successful rewarding years of hard work. Someday soon I would like to devote time to volunteer work.)

What you call attitude is actually vast experience, real hands on Corvette experience, decades of it, without the sugar coated façade seen in the world of bling, glitz, mice and some men. I learned about Corvettes before I ever learned about a mouse. I’m a real noobie compared to some mouse humpers, but I’m learning. Hey everyone is entitled to an opinion, even you. You can always bet I back mine up with undeniable facts, not anonymous chit chat room fiction or innuendo.

Geoffrey Coenen

PS With Corvettes, I do think it’s best to strive for quality and accuracy, as well as integrity, not attitude and thank that endorsement. Bitterness only describes the taste one has when the item turns out to be lemon, rather than what you thought.

I was thinking the same thing.....I bet all the other vendors have experienced similar issues in similar situations, but you don't see them making web pages about it or bringing it up in the forum.

I got a copy of this book back in 2005 and still look at it from time to time, lots of good information and detailed pictures.

This is the very book that got me pump and motivate to work on my 82 when I got burned out or discouraged to work on it.

To the author, thanks for putting this together for us to enjoy.

I do measured integrity and veracity much differently than some. I don't need to call you a nasty name: all I have to do is tell the truth about author who fudge their prose. Seriously, if this glossy cardboard covered "book" was of such outstanding value and return, you can bet the publisher would not be canning the project either.

Go right ahead: if you were there in 1993 you can speak up right now and you can even sign your name. I studied Corvettes for 35+ years harder than I did when I studied Chemistry and Biology. You can't fool me when in comes to Corvettes or someone who pretends otherwise.

Geoffrey Coenen

PS That Glas Ra Book I saw 79vetter was trying to get is an excellent manual for glass repairs, particularly for your task and skill.

If you think I would temper my views to make some imaginary sale, you must think that free speech is only for some. If I could not say I liked John McCain, or I only support traditional marriage between a man and a woman, or that so and so was really a liar and a cheat, I'd hang it all up. You must have some double standard. I also say Merry Christmas and vote. If your looking for politically correct see BO or Bernard Madoff.

Thanks Doc, Although I am sure it is not your intention regarding all the above comments, but you are probably gaining more customers than you are losing via your comments today......You are both brave and honest.
