My first Corvette, bought in 1977, was a black '65 roadster with a stinger hood, rear flares and holes cut for 3rd tail lights. This brings me back.
Steve ....please don't tell me that you have had a Corvette that wasn't "stock"!!!!?????I'm joking.
sky's 65 is awesome, and one of these days hope to be in a position to pick up a mid-year for myself.Thought I had one awhile back, but too much work to bring back remotely to a car,and the guy was extrememly proud of it.
Are the brakes from VB&P as well? If so, what are they? love the cross drilled slotted rotors.
Kelly
The brakes are from VB&P,but which car are you talking about? The black primer 68 doesn't have the brakes on it,but does have the slotted rotors, and the test fit car(gray primer 69) has stock rebuilt calipers that I painted the body color it's going...atomic orange.
The rotors were some that I had new here, and used on jack's build,so not sure of the manufacturer.Sorry.

So there you go. That's why you helped me sell my "other" car. You're a "closet" hot rod Corvette guy.
Seriously if it wasn't for you and your help I would probably still have the "other" car. You were also right it was much more fun to go shopping with money in hand.
I was writing about the black one with the slotted cross drilled rotors, what calipers will it have?
Kelly
Kelley it will have the VB&Ps SS o-ring calipers. They are in the back room, and will get them hung the last time I pull the body, which is going to be several more times before I am ready to get her bolted down for good.
I got 3 sets of J56s,and was going to go this route w/Jack since they are correct for the era,but we already purchased the VBPs,so....I will use all the J56s on my cars.
Amen to that.If I get them half as good as what you knock out, then it will be a good day.You are very good at this stuff.
It is just a lot of time fighting with the basic shape of the flare. To make it look good you have to do things to those flares that they dont want done to themselves
After a while you just have to show them who's boss.
Got the rear flares on,and not too bad for this being my first "flare job",but ultimately....bodywork is bodywork.Still have to do the insides when I knock the fronts out,but these turned out really nice, have a nice transition, and will require very little work to work these into/onto the quarters. That's what I like......fillers to smooth the repair. Not fillers to do the body work.
Tackle the fronts at the beginning of the week.
hips......
and...sneek peek at our era correct custom cap....turned out swell!!
Those flares are looking great! At first I thought they looked like they stuck out too far, but with covers off the wheels and the farther back shots, they look right!

Thanks for the thumbs up.
I took about 3/4" off the area where it mounts to the quarter,so the transition would be gradual, lower, and to bring the overall flare in about 1/2 inch from new.
We were wanting to lower them down alittle more, but wanted to be practical w/ it,and take no chance of tire interference, but the main issue was making sure that there isn't the larger gap at the rear of the wheel like these cars come from the factory. My car is awesome, but look at the gap at the back...It sucks! It was also, done in 1971 tho'.
I had HUGE road race tires on there, and it wasn't as noticeable, but still not right.
Sorry for the dirty car. It's winter here, and got the itch,and.....at the end of the day....these are all TOYS!!!!!

Thanks again.
Even though I'm a self-admitted wise@$$, I really do like to help.
PS, I have a secret history of custom cars, but I would have helped you anyway.

We know you are a good guy,and if anyone has been on this forum long enough...they know you are one of the very bright ones when it comes to these cars.
How's your 69 coming along?I can't wait to see that.I know it is going to be awesome!

At least 7 that could be categorized as "customs." My last one won a Super Chevy Custom class in 2000. AAAk! Hard to believe, eh?
I grew up with a guy who is still shooting custom paint on full custom bikes on the Discovery Channel today! (helps to get a seeeeerious discount!) I could never have afforded him if we hadn't gone to 7th grade together.

Believe it or not, I do get a lot of PM's asking for help.
Engine is about done and ready to come together. Scott was block sanding like a fool tonight on it. Body needed to be straightened out a little... he's kinda OCD that way. ( I can hear him from here: "A LITTLE?") It appears color is going on pretty soon. I'm getting psyched.
I have to pick up the bumpers in St Louis next week (ouch), but I think the bulk of the pricey parts are done.

Who did you end up going w/on the re-chroming down there?I know there is a place in St.Louis that Suncoast in Leroy sends all their stuff out to after they prep, and there is a place in Quincy, also.
Scott will have your baby looking GREAT.I have no doubt of that.Have you sen his dad's old race car? That thing is ...
