window chrome trim
I don't think anyone has reproduced the windshild header trim You'll have to find a used one or a used one that's been restored. I'd try Wilcox, Paragon, etc..
I believe that trim piece is stainless steel that's been flash chromed.
Happy New Year!

Alan
Edit>>>>The piece you are looking for (I think ) is on e-bay right now. However they are asking a ridiculous amount of money for it.

Mine looked like trash but the only option I had was to work with it. I sent it to the polishers and this is what I got back.
I also send the corner mouldings to the re-chromers and they turned out pretty good too AND they are still the original to the car and not repro - which is important to a lot of people round here!
I also send the corner mouldings to the re-chromers
Where they also pitted with poudry little holes in the chrome ?
If yes, the chromer must have filled them.
I got told that this is very difficult due to pod metal rubish material.
I have a spare est of the eraly 68 corners which are pitted.
I am wondering if they can properly rechorme those, that's why I'm asking.
Happy new year. Günther
The problem with having the corners re-plated is that the texture on the area where the top panel reciever is, is lost.
I polished the large stainless steel trim piece and realized it had been flash chromed to match the corner pieces. I then had to find someone who would flash chrome stainless.
On coupes there are 2 more pieces of trim on the halo that need to be re-plated too. $$$$

So the center piece is stainless that has been flash chromed? Wow this just keeps getting better. Well I guess I’m on a search for a local chromer. I keep hoping that willcox will chime in and say "oh we have that part"
The problem is that few people who chrome plate will flash chrome and even fewer will plate stainless steel.
On my coupe, Librandi's did their usual beautiful job on the 4 chrome pot metal pieces. The problems started when I realized the color of the polished SS T-shaped piece didn't match the color of the chrome.
Although $$ is an issue the bigger problem is finding someone to do it.

PS: Rally wheel trim rings are flash chromed too.

Ok I will be searching for a chromer. My center piece isn’t too bad but the corner pieces are toast. I bought a couple off of e-bay that weren’t bad just not show quality, maybe I can send them off and get me by. I do a good bit of polishing, I may just try to polish the center piece and see what I get. I just hate to polish stainless, it takes forever. Worst case I send it to be flash chromed somewhere.
The center piece is easy to work on because you can get at both sides if you have a dent or pock mark that needs to come out. It polishes up beautifully once you buff all the chrome off.
You might feel it's close enough in color to the chromed pieces to stop at that point. I didn't realize I would be unhappy until I started to install the SS piece and saw it next to the chrome pieces.
Part of my problem is that I can't leave well enough alone.
Happy New Year

I buffed the chrome off. At first I didn't know what was happening when I saw the color change. I took the piece to the platrer I've used and he was the one who realized there was chrome on the SS.
Here are a couple of pictures.
I'm sorry to V68 for stealing his thread!!!

Thanks for your help Allen, now back to your normal programing.
All GM stainless moldings were flash chromed.
A good buffer can make the stainless look extra good, but the original GM flash chrome had a different hue to it. Many people don’t know this and as Alan stated when you buff the moldings they will show a color change.
Personally, I would buff the moldings and use them. They are stainless steel and will retain the luster for years without any touch up. I would only flash chrome if I was going to show or judge the car to NCRS standards.
The 68 header did not have holes as DZ shows, the end moldings were different on the early cars for 68 and then the late design fit 68 Late to 77. The early 68 ends are real rare and the late ends will work just fine.
Willcox Inc.
The 68 header had two styles, early one that required removal of the windshield to remove and install...and later production that could be removed and installed without taking the windshield out
