Default I need some help with my interior

I just bougth a red 1971 convertible with a black top and interior. I need a few interior parts for it that are missing to tide me over until I do a complete restoration.

The car looks good and drives good, but the interior needs some TLC. I cleaned up the stuff that I have and it looks good, but I need to replace the stuff that is missing. This is what it looked like when I picked it up

I would post this is the for sale/wanted section, but I am trying to reach you guys that have replaced your worn parts and haven't thrown the old ones away yet. If you want to get that stuff out from under your fee, here is your chance to help a fellow CF brother out.

The car is missing:
  • both front console sides
  • ash tray
  • console face
  • shifter boot
  • 4-speed indicator panel
  • both kick panels
  • passenger door(not custom interior)
  • window crank handle spacer
  • a-pillar trim for passenger side
  • driver's side trim by seat to cover the panel behind the door here is a pic of what they look like.
  • interior light lense
  • seatbelts - non shoulder belts (all)
  • seat track adjustment **** (chrome)
  • seat bolts
  • front carpet set
  • sun visors and brackets

The soft top is there, but the rear window is gone, and the vinyl is really bad. I will try to clean it up this weekend and see if it will go back on the car.

I can get a new one for $180 from this seller:
Corvette convertible top 68 to 75

I may try to get the missing parts for the hard top, or just try to find another one complete. This one is missing:
  • hard top rear glass
  • hard top stainless trim (all)
  • hard top mounting brackets and pins
  • hard top headliner

Either way, right now the car is a fair weather vehicle for sure!

This is a huge list, and I will eventually buy all this stuff new (Probably do a package deal with Wilcox), but I would like to get some cheap donor parts to put on the car to make it more presentable until that time.

I don't think the wifey will ever ride in it. I asked her to help me prime the carbureator when I first got it and she went inside and took a shower after sitting in the car for a few minutes. I didn't have the heart to ask her to help me bleed the brakes!

If you have any of these parts laying around I would gladly pay you something for them and cover the ocost of shipping.

Just shoot me a PM if you can help me out.

Thanks,

Hi Curby,
I don't have any parts for you, BUT tell your wife you have an UN-BROKEN center gauge bezel and that almost as good as finding those cute shoes she's wanted, for 50% off.
Regards,
Alan

I would love to place an order for a complete interior, and will when the time comes, but right now I just want to cover the bare metal with something. It doesn't have to be that nice.

Good call . . . I tried that once and one time only. Wish I could help you out, but my interior was mostly complete and I just had to repaint/re-dye bits and pieces. I did replace my door panels from Wilcox (which I really, really like), but I reused all the trim/hardware and got rid of them . . . sorry Good luck with your project!!!

You got lucky. I don't see anything here you cannot replace and/or restore/refinish.

My advice is to purchase the '71 assembly instruction manual (AIM), then sit down and go through it six or seven times before you start getting too far into the restoration. The AIM will show you how the car was assembled at St. Louis and will list the original parts and parts numbers. Order a reproduction owner's manual while you're at it.

Good luck.

OK, I broke down, and bought a bunch of little stuff from Volunteer Vettes last night. I didn't get it all, though.

a-pillar trim for passenger side
driver's side interior rear quarter panel (the piece that fits behind the door)
interior light lense
both kick panels

wiper door bolts
upper fender corner moldings - both sides

convertible top mounting bolts
radio

hard top rear glass
hard top stainless trim (all)

It sounds like you are doing an excellent job of rebuilding your interior. But it does become expensive, if all the parts aren't there or if they are damaged beyond repair. I just think your situation is a good opportunity to point out the difficulties of buying a car in that condition and then getting it back into "original" condition. I applaud you on your effort... also it can educate others into the value of finding a 'rough' car that has most of it's original parts intact. {I hope you don't mind this use of your thread.}

No problem. It is all the "little stuff" that eats up the money fast.

I have a bid in on a door (in black), and a couple more in waiting if I lose that auction.

I have someone maybe getting me some kick panels.

If I had thought that $100 for both quarter panels was a good deal, I would have bought them off of eBay. Now I find out that they are $240 and sold in pairs. All I need is the driver's side one.

I also need the a-pillar trim piece for the passenger side.

I also need the wiper door mounting kit

The window crank handle spacer (in black)

And the courtesy light lens

If anybody has any of these, please shoot me an email.

Once I have all of this, I can start on the "consumables"

Weatherstripping kit
Headlight vacuum line kit
Wiper door vacume line kit
Headlight bucket rebuild kit
Door Glass inner seal
Door window outer seal
Convertible top canvas
Convertible top weatherstripping kit

Thanks guys,

Default Picked up a few more items this weekend

I was successful with my ebay bid for the passenger door, but it is missing the door pull and the little chrome "C" piece.

I also scored a hard top from a club member that is complete and in his wife's way. It is a vinyl covered one, but that is OK. I can always have my other one painted, and transfer the trim pieces over.

I still need the following, and am trying to hold out on getting them from the vendors:

black door pull
chrome "C" trim for passenger door
window crank handle spacer (black to match interior)
a-pillar trim for passenger side
driver's side interior rear quarter panel (the piece that fits behind the door)
interior light lens (I wonder if it is the same as the dome lens for the coupe)
both kick panels

wiper door bolts (the ones that allow the door to rotate out of the way)
upper fender corner moldings - both sides (little stainless trim pieces)

convertible top mounting bolts
radio (doesn't need to be original, just working)
