Default Dumb question...???????

What does this picture mean?Or better yet....I have never seen the real McCoy.This is in a car that has been sitting for many, many years.A BB car that is custom like a motion car.No antenna, and some crazy cover for the heater box area, and no holes to install heater box.
The original engine is gone...as was the 4-speed.I am getting the 435 engine that was in the car it looks like, but it had a Turbo 400 w/4500 stall, and wheelie bars.
I am NOT trying to say that this is a REAL ZL1,but this is a pretty unique car w/23k on the odometer.
Is this how the ZL1 wiper switch areas were,or is this part of the custom/Motion transformation.....?????
Thanks....

The engine data was all on the console aft of the shifter. Do you have any more pics? Like the radio delete plate. tach. heater delete?

very interesting!!!!!!! probably a heater delete car for sure, but the ZL1 placard.....i don't know, have never seen the real McCoy myself either! looks pretty legit though. could be a ZL1 that yenko or baldwin "customized and personalized" or something like that? i hope for your sake that it turns out to be something valuable or rare. rick

Well, the area its attached to should either be the 2 moveable vents if it were an A/C car, or a "Corvette" script if not. Looks like a custom panel was placed there, with a console data plate sized insert stuck on.

I also wonder about the odd toggle switch hanging down. It just seems like the whole area has been messed with.

I kinda agree, and like I said.....I am not trying to hint here that this is some lost ZL car.Not at all.I have just never seen a real ZL car,and this car is pretty interesting.
I don't have pictures of the radiator support, but will post some of the car in the am.I don't even believe it was a real Motion car actually, but it could have been built by them.I just didn't know how they/Motion marked their cars when they left the garage.
The tach is 6500 redline, and all the BB suspension is there. It was a 4-speed car,and the pedals are still there, but it had the 435 in it w/the auto, and stall.
The owner contacted me thru ebay, and wanted some non-AC stuff, cause the car was missing it,then when I shipped the stuff...there was some kinda aluminum plate over the hole in the firewall, and no holes for a AC box,or non-AC box. When he told me about the ZL1 plaque....,along w/the other stuff, and I saw pictures....it turned into a pretty unique car.
he's getting ready to put a blower on a 454 for the car,and I am suppose to get the 427 engine.
How did Motion work?I mean....where new never owned cars taken to there, and converted,or did people buy the cars, then take them themselves to have them converted?Just curious.
Also.....there was a junk custom radio in the car,so no "radio delete plate",but there is also,no signs of a antenna hole ever being on the car.

Motion would take/get new cars, add their stuff and sell them as new. They were. Never titled and still had the Manufacturer Statement of Origin. Yenko did pretty much the same. I've heard that if you suspect a car as being a Motion car, you can contact the original owner of Motion, Joel Rosen, and he can document if it is a true Motion car.

yes, baldwin/motion and yenko chevrolet worked pretty much the same way. basically they would take delivery on brand new cars and "personalize" them and put their own brand on them. i have owned 2 different 69' yenko camaros and 1 69' yenko chevelle, so i know a bit about them. yenko was a bit more consistent with their conversions than baldwin was, but all of them were capable of turning out some very unique cars that were different than the last one........rick

there is an upholstery shop very near here that has an orange baldwin motion corvette clone parked in front. Most noticable is the paint scheme, other than that i'm not sure how the vehicles were badged/marked. I think i remember some additional exterior badging too...

*edit*

I just found this and you can see the inside of a motion corvette, not sure if it helps...

It was also possible for one to take their car to motion and have them make the changes..

Motion also sold bits and kits direct to consumers thru mail order, a la carte. Still have an old catalog somewhere if it hasn't crumbled into dust (newsprint) along with a vintage decal, but have no idea where to start looking; so don't ask...

I think I remember reading that heater delete was not available starting in 69 due to a federal mandate that all cars have defrosters.

That could very well be true, and I believe that I heard this also, now that you brought it up.
Notice....in my posting...I never said the year of the car,and I know the ZL1 was a 69 thing. The car is 68.I just didn't know,if a car could be sent to Motion for a make over,or if the parts could be bought.
I was more curious as to if this was a real motion/ZL1 wiper switch piece that someone added years ago.
Thanks for the thoughts....

I'm sorry, you didn't say what year it was, I just saw ZL1 and assumed it was a 69. I really need to stop doing that.
By the looks of that rear window, it could very well be a Motion Car.
Several other companies did Headlight & Taillight treatments and different hoods, but I think Joel Rosen was the only one to use that rear window. I could be wrong, that certainly has happened before.
If you are really interested, you could send the V.I.N. to Mr. Rosen & he will tell you if that is his work, for a fee, of course. If it is a real Motion car, It would be money well spent.

Plase don't apologize.I didn't mean it like..."I NEVER said what year it was!!!"I didn't mean it like that at all.I know 69 was the ZL1 year, and I also, know this is a 68 car.I left out the year in the hopes of getting unclouded thoughts here...Not clouded, cause if it is a 68,then it can't be.That's all I was doing.I didn't mean anything t'wards you.Not at all,and greatly appreciate your input here.Peace,my friend.
The back window looks "right" to me too. That is one of the things that intrigued me about the car,and the heater delete,65k tach, and no apparent antenns, and the car only has in the 20s on the odometer.
Hmmmmmm.....

It does look like a Motion rear window!

The front end doesn't really look Motion to me though, but it could have been replaced at a later time. I'm also thinking the 427-ZL1 emblem looks more like something from a much later time period.... looks more like plastic, than a big clunky pot metal casting...not that...that means anything but it looks 80's...IMHO

Also note: I believe I heard there are no records that Motion kept to doument things, and that Rossen is only going by memory of what looks like his work... So, for a few thousand bucks it's documented by memory instead of paperwork of what happened 40 years ago... not always 100% accurite IMHO.

On the other hand, it has 70lb oil pressure gauge,6500 tach and BB rear... and thats nothing to sneeze at.

Does the 427 block still have anything on the pad?...and what is the vin#?
PM me if you would rather keep it private... I'm curious if it was in the same run as my 427/435.

Very interestin car to say the least!
