Default Fender Trim Piece Question

Does anyone know if the trim piece, on top the front fenders, next to the windshield, between the door and the wiper door is the same for all years 68-72? thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,
I do think there were 2 fender trim pieces.
I believe the earlier (68?) was shorter and did not extend as close to the front edge of each door as the later trim did.
I thought I had a picture but I can't find it right now. Maybe a 68 person will pipe up.
Regards,
Alan

Alan is correct. There were two different designs of this piece. 1968 did use the first design, and '69 and up used the second design.

Default Need both for my 71

Thread Hijack!

What are these things called?

If anyone has some, I need both sides for my 71. I looked through all the parts that came with the car, and they are not to be found.

They are called "Upper fender corner moldings". Rik's Corvette Parts has them: RH #EXT183; LH #EXT183; about $30 each.

Yep, but they appear identical to the casual glance.

Since they are for a '72, that's not an issue.

This picture is from a car I am considering buying. I posted this pic in an earlier thread about problems with the body work. The upper fender trim piece is way too small. Leaving big gaps at the windshield pillar. The front end has been replaced with a 1 piece front end. At first I thought there was something a miss with the fenders. Now I believe the car has the early 68 trim pieces (car is an early 68 production car) and the it needs the later trim piece. Replacement fenders and front ends are for 69 and later. Not much for 68's especially early 68's. thanks, Mark

In the previous post the edge of the doors and hood line up like they should. There has to be difference in the top fender trim piece size???

Default Upper fender trim 68 to 72 question?

To answer the first question. Early 68's used a different more stubby pointed end. But that is for the early built 68's like Sept Oct Nov Dec 67 Jan and Feb and early March 68 cars should have the short Fender trim. From April 68 the fender upper trims are the same you see on the 69 to 72 as the picture of the green car.
Repop upper fender trims DO NOT FIT WELL!!!! Better to buy NOS or original GM pieces. I may have a set or 2 to sell but have to dig them up. You can pm me and I will see what I have.

The question as to fitment. It should butt up closer to the window trim. But I don't know if the pieces on that car is repop or not.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Grant

Hi John,
There is not any weather stripping under the trim piece, but there is a piece under the top rear of the fender at that point.
It was there to help divert the water coming down the windshield into the weather strip at the bottom of the A-pillar. Of course this was just great because it meant there was even more water to leak on to the driver's and passenger's feet. At first this was a preformed piece of dense rubber, but by 70-71? the factory was just gobbing a lot of black sealer in that space.
Regards,
Alan

This is an early 68 car, October 67.
What trim piece do you think is on ths car now by looking at the picture?
What will it need to fix this problem with the big gap? I have not bought this car yet. Still working through some of the issues. Thanks
Mark

Something is off with that trim piece, or fender.
Look at this 69. This shows the proper alignment. The green fender looks too long in this area and the trim piece looks too like it should be mounted rearward further.

Hi Mark
If you are asking questions of an early production 68 assembled in Oct 67 then the fender trim is different from all the pics shown on the forum. Ot has a shorter curve and not so pointed.

Send me a pm with your e mail address and I will send you a pic. I don't know how to put a pic on the forum. A forum member tried to tell me how to do it and I still couldn't get the pic on the forum.
Thanks, Grant

Posting pics is really easy. Open a free account with photobucket.com.
Once done click the "browse" button and locate the pic file on your computer. Click on the pic file and then click download. Once downloaded to photobucket click on the IMG Code, should copy automatically when you pass the cursor over the IMG Code, copy and paste in your thread. Thats it.

Default Only Photos I Have

#13092, one owner car and nothing physical has been replaced. Parts are original to that assembly date. Also check the mirror location with the Yellow car as to the Blue car in question as there seems to be some disparity as to the mirror location determining when they are built. All I personally know is this is the original front end on a 28,000.
mile Vette and what is visible belongs to the car. Early, late, long, short parts or stuff, dont know.
