I was told to use denatured alcohol. It worked very well. Yes - once you think you really got it clean - do it a couple more times. One thing I recommend - look very closely at your plastic before painting it. I had some fibers from the cleaning rags cling to some parts of the plastic (esp. where a chip in it exists). I didn't see them till the paint was applied. Mostly got them off after paint dried but thught worth mentioning. Was very happy with the finished product.
I used dawn grease remover dish soap & washed everything twice, then rinsed twice with warm water, then wiped down wirh denatured alcohol then spwayed with light coats. Call if U need help!

I'll have to check my can at home to see exactly what I have, but it was recommended by some forum members to me. It is an EXACT match to the factory black plastic and is available at your local parts store.
If you use spray paint, it will tend to fill in the surface grain, will be subject to chipping and peeling, and you will always have to use paint thereafter. If you use vinyl dye [like the parts were originally colored], it will not fill the grain, it will not chip or peel, and you can re-color it any color with vinyl dye as many times as you want. Do what you will....
