I have a u joint on the passenger side half shaft that needs replaced. can anyone give me hints on how to or web sites on this subject? I have replaced U joints on drive shafts before is this the same process or is there more to this task.
The 'toughest' part of this task is to break the old joints out of the yokes. Most are locked in place from rust/corrosion. If you have a press, set a fair amount of force on the joint with the press, then rap on the yoke journals with a small hammer (rap on them, don't pound on them). That will cause the corrosion to break loose and get them moving. After that, it's a 'piece of cake'.
When you jack the car up an let the rear tire hand down, not touching the ground. The halfshaft may come right out without even messing with the camber nut. Try it! Mine did I took mine to a local shop, fleet pride which installs truck u-joints. For 7.50 each they installed the new u-joints. 45 bucks to install 6 u-joints, they can have that job.
thanks again for all the help, i hope mine goes that well. The camber bolt was a worry but you guy's have put my mind to rest. Now if the weather lets up i can try all your information out.
