So my cat is proving to be fairly useless in giving me feedback on my plans for my car. I own a 70 LS5. The car has the original paint, and is a very low mile, 55K fairly unmolested car. I have every sheet of documentation you can think of, including the original salesman's business card. The problem, the motor was replaced ~1983 with a factory BB replacement engine. When the engine was replaced, the dealer had the speed shop next door do the work, they put an L88 cam, intake manifold and hood on the car. Since I bought the car I put a Holley 4802 carb on it, I have a set of 043 aluminum heads, and most of the parts to build a TI ignition. I am doing what I would have done if I had blown the motor in 1983, the best of an L88/LS6 with factory parts.
I am not going to paint the car, because I think it is very cool that I can see the all the seams in the fiberglass...even if there are some rough paint spots...around the head lights, behind the doors...
Since it is not the original motor, am I being foolish in finding correct chevy parts or is there something to be had by using these?
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Chris
Here is a tech question; key buzzer buzzes even when the key is out of the ignition, so its more of a door buzzer. new ignition switch?

Reason: added question
If you are putting "correct parts" on the car thinking of protecting the value on a NOM car, I don't think its worth the extra money. I would go nuts with aftermarket parts if it were mine.
Hi Chris,
I believe you're free to do what ever you want with this engine in order for you to enjoy your car.
I think you should keep an eye out for a block with a proper casting date for your car. You then can begin to put the other dated and numbered parts together to build an engine that is correct but not original to your car. I think that engine, even if it's not in the car, makes your 'otherwise unmolested' car the most valuable to the widest group of people if you need to sell it someday.
Let's see some pictures!!!

Alan
my cat is chevy and ducati cat. When I go in the garage, he howls to come and just so he can sit on the roof of the car, or sleep on the seat of the bike. When I put a different car in the garage he has no interest in climbing on it, just the vette.
