I think the later year hoods were thicker and had more 'meat' to them. I was so shocked by the weight I put it on a scale and it was between 48 and 49 lbs with insulation and mounting hardware.

I replaced it with a Vanacor L88 hood that weighed less than 20 lbs.

Same for me. I was really surprised how HEAVY the 80 stock hood was. Easy 50lbs. The VANAcours L88 replacement is a featherweight- I'll bet a lot less than 20 lbs.

I think they have a steel frame inside which adds significantly to the weight. The aftermarket Vanacor is just hand layed fiberglass and will eliminate A LOT of unneeded weight from the front end.

Thanks for all the replys. I'm pulling the hood to gain more access for an engine compartment clean and repaint. I did'nt want any surprises since my wife is going to be the one on the other side when it's time to lift.

two persons?? .. you don't have to worry at all! .. actually today I put the hood on and off alone to set the hood level after replacing the front cross member and radiator support. Usually I ask any kid passing by in the neighborhood to help me with that just to make sure I don't scratch anything.
