Default update, thanks for your help <pics>

Well I bought our 71 on ebay thanksgiving day, drove to so carolina the next weekennd and hauled home all the pieces on a trailer. With a lot of help from everyone in here, I have got to this point so far. I picked up on the chassis where the shop in was in left off, they had all the frame, brakes, steering, suspension rebuilt/refurbished/painted. I got all the brake and fuel lines all hooked up, front crossmember and supports back in, engine back together and missing parts replaced, all the 4-speed conversion parts lined out and installed, radiator recored, new belts, hoses, tune-up parts installed. wheels sandblasted and painted, new tires. engine/trans are ready to drop. first I am going to detail the engine compartment. I was planning to gut the interior next but I am too excited about my first big block so I am going to get it drivable first so I can get it out some then tear into the interior. So at this point I will have a completly refurbished/restored chassis and drive train from the tires to the chrome air breather. with a fair driver condition paint and interior. That puts me right at the 10 grand mark invested so far. Thanks again everyone, soon all my help questions will be interior, wiper and headlight related... unless they happen to work when I can try them..

It looks like you are doing a great job on your new project. It does get exciting when you finally see it coming together! Keep the photos coming. Since you are not needing paint any time soon, you can do the interior any time you get the chance. My advice would be to re-use/refurbish all the interior parts you can and just clean/re-dye them. Also, you will need to decide on what kind of insulation you want to put under your carpeting. Plan/buy all the 'new' stuff ahead so you don't have a lot of 'dead' waiting time...then you'll get to drive it sooner!

Car looks great and nice work. You sound just about right on the cash so far, but you will probably double that when you get to the body unless you know how to paint it yourself.

It will be one nice ride when your done. Keep the pics coming

nope I cant paint but I have a good friend with a body shop, I'll do what I can with his guidance and then get it to him for the paint. he will make me do all the sanding after then he will buff it out. I have about 2 grand in the body and paint work on my nova, its a 10 year old paint job now and the pic I will put below was takin last summer down at the river.. thanks everybody for the encouragement!

Just something I noticed from your engine picture ....

The vacuum advance canister should be behind the ignition/shield cover support on the passenger side. You will never be able to get the tach cable to screw into the side gear with it pointing directly to the rear. It needs to be at an angle. When standing on the passenger side of the car, the vacuum advance canister should be pointing directly at the fender.

btw .... you have done excelent work on the car !!!
