Need some info...just purchased intake manifold for my 71. What are rules for the casting date? Is it no more than 6 months prior to engine assembly date?(per NCRS guidelines). Thanks
Hi D,
Since you're working towards getting your 71 back to stock perhaps you should consider buying the NCRS 70-72 CORVETTE TECHNICAL MANUAL & JUDGING GUIDE. I think you find it interesting and helpful. Check out the Store at the NCRS Site.

Alan
I have third edition---I see a fourth edition is now available. I had a conversation with a gentleman and he told me it was only a three month window on the date code. He said he received this info from a judge at a NCRS meet.

6 months is acceptable; 3 months is better, and if you can get closer still, you're better off. The engine in my '68 was assembled on 4/9/68; intake manifold is dated the end of March. Time/build code is 4/20/68.
What's the time/build code for your car? There was a strike at St. Louis from mid-September through the end of November 1970 which could throw off numbers.
I'm sure the NCRS date guidelines are 6 months prior to production date.
Often MANY parts are MUCH closer than 6 months. Sometimes only a few days or weeks.
The intake manifold of my original owner 71, 350/270, (Jan 71 build) is dated H 27 0, (August 27, 1970). The vast majority of parts on the car have December and January dates. The manifold is the only date that seems odd.
