Hi NMT,
I've used the Eastwood system. It works well consdering the very small power (battery) it has. I use it to plate bolts and nuts.
Take a look at Casswell. Much larger and more capable systems at a higher price.
Regards,
Alan

PS: The Casswell system has been talked about on the NCRS Board.

All you need to do this at home is a zinc anode (Used on boats), an electrolyte solution, two wires and 6 volts of power. (Power supply, batteries, ect.).

Wire wheel or sand blast your part, and then use muratic acid as a cleaning solution before you plate. You might want to do a Google on How to and see what it turns up.

I used it to plate a lot of parts on my 71'. Here is the hood latch. It probably wouldn't last 10 minutes in a salt spray environment but it has held up well on my summer only car. I bead blast all the parts before plating. I use a 3 Amp power supply instead of a flashlight battery.

I use the caswell system. Don't know how I'd do my resto without it.

after (this is with briightener and some ultrafine sanding before plating-makes the zinc look like chrome)

Well I got mine delivered today and just had to go try it out tonight. It has worked great for the nuts and bolts. I didnt like polish they give you so I tried a few other things to get the dull appearance off. I used a brass wire brush, soft bristles, and it worked great. If I do the big parts, like the hood latch above, I will probably use the polish since it would leave a better finish Im sure. I should have asked this question before I ordered mine, I probably would have bought the bigger one from Casswell. Thanks for everyones input. now I have to figure out what bolts get what finish....

Hey Duke

No offense and it may be the photo quality but the latch looks more painted than plated. Is it just photo quality?

I have used the Caswell Copy Cad 1.5 Gal system. I Just thought the kit looked more complete, it is a quality kit, I was pleased with the results. Good luck, as with painting it is all in the prep.

For price difference looks like 5 amp is better investment. Be curious what amp size others are using
