I was tuning my engine a couple weekends ago and was getting aggrevated trying to hold the engine speed. So I came up with this idea. Worked great. Just a small turnbuckle and a piece of wire to hold the throttle where I wanted it. Don't know if there is a better idea out there, but this worked.
How high are you trying to hold the rpms? Couldn't you just turn the idle speed screw up? Regardless, you've got a good idea there. BTW, do you ever hit the Hardees in Chester on Saturday nights in the summer time? I make it down there once or twice a summer, but am usually at the cruise in here in Mechanicsville at Brunetti's
I use this for checking the distributor advance w/ and w/o vacuum; manifold and ported, at different rpm's. I usually stop around 3000 rpm. It's much easier than trying to hold the throttle at a steady poisition and write down the numbers.
That will work but so will the idle screw. It does not take much throttle opening to keep the engine at 3000 rpm in neutral. I do it all the time when doing engine break in on a new engine.
I had my accelerator cable snap and the way I set up the new one, I could easily use the rest of the old cable as a cruise control mechanism that connects right to the carb in the same place. If I ever build it, I'll take a picture. My idea was to wrap the cable around a rod right under the steering wheel and use it long trips, it'd like to set it up so that I can disengage it with the accelerator.
Pete, let me know when you go to car shows, Adam051@dom.com
I've got quite a lot to show you since last time...and that girl you met is history.
