I just spent 3 evenings very carefully removing my windshield without breaking it and found broken pieces of glass in the glue under it. How can I tell if I have an original or even a GM windshield. The whole windshield seems to be tinted with the top darker almost a amber color??
On a 78 it is tinted glass and shaded. The AS1 script is on the upper passenger side of the windshield. It marks the area between the shaded and unshaded portions of the glass.
Hi W71,
If you're talking about a 71 car the windshield should have 1 of 2 different logos etched into the glass in the lower passenger's side corner.
Up to about VIN 4500 it was LOF SAFTEY PLATE, after about VIN 4500 it was LOF SAFTEY FLO-LITE. There is also a 2 letter date code, VT, on my mid-January built car. The logo is etched on the outside so it's readable from inside the car.
All windshields were tinted and shaded at the top. They have SHADED SOFT-RAY as part of the etched logo.
Regards,
Alan
