Ok so I'm making a right turn from an intersection and I hit a minor rough spot in the road and all of a sudden the front end starts to shake very violenty. By this time, I had just come out of the turn and was doing about 25/30 mph. The steering wheel was shaking so bad I had to pull over and stop. I actually thought a tie rod came loose, it was that bad. Drove the rest of the way home without any problem. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The entire suspension is OEM and otherwise It handles and steers ok. Got it up on blocks now, and can't see anything wrong at all.
Where you on a slick or sandy road? My only thought...and its a stretch...that the pothole you hit just plain shook the whole suspension on your car. If the tires werent stable it would extend the action.. A bit of a stretch but I'm just guessing here
I encountered this once before on a Monza modified for IMCA racing. The car had 8"rims on the front with a minimal backspacing,so this made the front track quite wide.Once in a while the same thing that happened to you would happen to this car. The fix was spacers that gave the front end more negative camber so that the outside edge of the tire was only used under considerable cornering forces.
My suggestion is to check your camber and make sure its within specs,or slightly more negative camber if you have a tendancy to corner faster than most.
I have known some front-wheel-drive vehicles with CV joints to do this, (wobble violently) during a hard turn, but never a double wish-bone suspension! If this is indicative of worn out components and out-of-spec alignment........ this baby is going to stay on blocks for a long time untill I win the lottery
I think Mr. Shea might be shedding some light on this soon.
wheel hop is a solid axle problem rear wheels hop under hard braking...did you check your idler arm, and the other power steering components....if you have ps.
Yes, it does have power steering. However I am not familar with this type of control valve to blame it. I'm suprised there isn't more on this subject, on this forum.
Had the same problem, its your idler arm , easy fix ,about a $25.00 and 15 mins or less. Put a new one in mine and no more shake or shimmy when hitting a pot hole
