I am planning on building a box like this
Here are the specs the box from fleabay
My question is has any ever build a box like pictured or fiberglass boxes for C3 corvettes 68-82. Also what type of wood is better for the 8in subs. The current boxes are made of 3/4in mdf. Thanks for any help.
I’m no expert here, but I will try to help with what I have learned. You may know all of this already, but I will throw it out just incase. ¾ Mdf is ideal ½ will work, but most people recommend ¾ . Make sure you size the box to the subs. It looks like they have a minimum air space of .36 cubic feet and remember you need to account for the displacement of the sub. On a normal 8” sub that is about .03 cubic feet. I don’t see a maximum air space in your specs, but that would be nice to know also. The subs will sound much better if you keep them in that range. Using the calculator in this link your current box is .355 cubic feet before sub displacement. http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm
I have built similar boxes and you might consider just getting the one off ebay if your time is worth anything. You can build it cheaper yourself, but the guess work is already done on that one.
For 8' woofers ½MDF is fine. It's about $25/4x8 sheet. Most of the prebuilt ones I've seen are PARTICLE board-and are OK till you get them wet.
If your required volume for the speakers is LESS than the volume of the box-Built the box as two seperate chambers (also will help strengthen the box) . Add some dacron (polyester) for insulation.
If you've got a table saw and a nailgun go for it.
