hello everybody!! well my father owns a 1982 and every time he puts it into gear(automatic) it squats down (sometimes violently) is this normal?? thank you to everybody in advanced.
No, It NOT normal. I have an '80 model and it used to do that as well. The guy at the Corvette shop down the road replaced a rubber part (I believe it was at the rear axle, though it might have been at the transmission) that fixed the problem.
I'm embarrassed that I cannot tell you exactly what it was, but it was a couple of years ago and memory fails me. All I can remember was that it was not an expensive fix. I hope this will at least point you in the right direction.
Perhaps someone with more experience or a better memory will be more definitive.

right on.. well im going to look into it and since its a cheap fix im happy about hahaha.. is this something me and my old man can do in the garage on a weekend or is this a serious job thats gonna need a ASE mechanic??
You mean it violently shakes when you put it in drive. Me too.
no no when i shift it from [P] down to [D] it squats down very rapidly. i think what you have might be a bad torque converter.. i have a 06 tiburon and i had the same problem after i but the blower on.. turns out the torque converter was not able to hold the extra hp...the C3 is an older car and your torque converter is not gonna be the same after 25years. we bought ours from the local tuner shop it was 445$ after install

It's not really constantly shaking, just one big thud really. Is that what you have. I can't really imagine squatting.
Probably a dumb question but is the idle in proper place. If it's revved too high it could do this. Just a thought.
Also, is that rubber snubber on all c-3's
Not trying to highjack
I believe most cars, rear wheel, will do this "squat" when put in gear. My 75 does it, and what you might not be realizing is in a Vette your *** is all but on the ground and right in front of the rear wheels, so it seems more pronounced when it happens. It is a result of your foot on the brake and the torque of the engine and the rear spring and etcccccccccccc. Put it in gear without your foot on the brake and it won't do it (do it safely of course from neutral) JMO, take it or leave it.
BY THE WAY, if you have mechanical abilities, you can replace the bushing yourself, but if you have a deep wallet, pay someone to do it!!!
th reason for the squat is the independent suspension. all vettes to this to some extreme. the subber cushion is an easy fix and can do it with a prybar and about a half hour. you will notice a big improvement in the feel of the "squat" but wont ever get rid of it. to make it easier next time replace the bolt upside down as removing it the first time through the top can be tricky and time consuming.
