Well I think I finally found my 'vette. I took a look at it already and the frame is very nice. I looked in the typical birdcage area and it checks out. The interior does need work but nothing major (carpet, door panels, seat covers/foam). It has a relatively new crate engine from summit (GM). 330/350 with vortec heads and a holly double 670 carb. Very nice red paint. He wanted 8 grand but he took my 6500 offer and I will have another look next next weekend and hopefully pick her up! By the way shes a 79.
Now i'm having fun designing a car computer for it! I will make a complete tread with instruction if anyone else enjoys an in car computer!

I just bought the 350HO, 330HP with Vortec heads for my 77. That engine alone cost about $4K. If you got the car for $6500 you did well, nice going. I can recommend Willcox for the interior stuff when you are ready and replacing carpets, seats, etc. are now something I have completed as well so let me know if and when you need pictures. Have a ball with the new car and keep us in pictures when you can.
Enjoy.

I'm excited. I was pretty shocked when he agreed to 6500 I was thinking he'd say 7500. He showed me some of his other vettes (all c3s and a C6 ZO6 DD) and they were . He is looking at a C2 so he wants this car sold so he can have room for the c2. I'll post pics when I pic her up around the 25th.
I finally picked out a 'vette. Saw her on Sunday and CarChex is looking at her this week. The frame looked very good and the birdcage was also very nice. She has a 10k mile 330/350 engine (GM) that runs flawlessly. The paint has a few scratches and oxidation but what I really need an opinion about is the fiberglass. There are 2 issues, one back by where you put your finger for the fuel door there is a little crack (or maybe paint chip but it looked more like a crack) and the right front wheel well has a penny sized chip in it. With the fuel door i wonder if I can just sand and fill with epoxy resin? The car is $5500 so she will get new paint.
Which car are you getting for $5,500? The paint and body work could easily cost you twice that. I would be wary about a '79 with a '76 steering column, makes me wonder if it was pieced together.
It's none of the cars listed so far. I will post pictures once the inspector finishes and sends them to me. The body is straight and perfect other than the 2 listed issues. It's a 79 with a 79 steering column . I will try to detail the car because the paint isn't bad other than the oxidation. I checked this car over pretty toughly. The only non function things are: Clock, Passenger window(the battery gauge needle spikes when you try to operate it so I'm thinking motor?, glove box lock is loose, and mirrors are a tad shaky for my liking. Also need to order an air cleaner for her (any suggestions for some neat modern-looking ones under $150?) because she has one of the edelbrock foam cleaners.

That's what i was thinking. Rock her with the current paint for a year and fix the little things (clock, window, etc) and if she needs it paint next year. Original aluminum wheels look way in person so I think I will keep those stock.
