What do you think? I asked the seller today for mileage and birdcage/frame pics. I am not looking for a show car just a driver. Contemplating painting her myself in the garage (with a home made paint booth) or rental paint booth if I can find one.
Honestly, I'd shoot him a $2000 offer. Thats assuming it runs and has a good tranny. It looks like there is something wrong with the left headlight door.
I'd also be concerned about how long it's been sitting with the window half down. If the interiors ruined you can have a lot of money wrapped up in used parts to replace it.
I can't tell, maybe the hood hasn't been latched on the passenger side, but there's a problem there.
Anytime I read 'project' and 'little money' in the same ad, I figure the person's not corvette savy. I'm not a die hard Corvette fan, just an old school hot rodder. I'm constantly amazed at the price corvette only replacement parts run.
Go and look at it, check it out and if you get it for what you want to give, enjoy it.
For sure go look at it for frame and birdcage rot. If it has either, the car is not worth much. If it's OK (and you varified it) 2-3 grand wouldn't be bad for a driver. As John has said, you can spend a ton of $$$ if the interier is shot. Also ask if it has been sitting outside.
Man you guys are very observant! I would have never seen the headlight door. I was thinking to shoot him 1800 and go from there and get a mechanic to look it over, if there is anyone in the area that would be willing to take a look with me let me know.
You really have to see it in person to know for sure. Looks like the front bumper has rotted away which would indicate that it's been sitting outside in the elements for a very long time. I would bet that frame is swiss cheese.

1k tops.... if it runs and shifts OK its gonna cost several thousand to get back to a Daily Driver... Just my opinion though. If that drivers side window will not roll up, I would bet the floor on that side is rusted out. You can check by looking under the car.

I strongly suggest you take a knowledgeable person with you. By this I mean someone that knows Corvettes, period specific is even better. There are so many things that can and do go wrong and you are getting hints here from pictures, that tells you the knowledge is important. Not sure where you are located or where the car is but if there is anyone on the forum that can meet up and help you look then you will be far better off. My two cents. Good hunting and good luck.

He sent me pics and I could SWEAR it's a 79 not at 76. Take a look:
In the body of his ad he correctly calls it a 79. His title is wrong, but his data appears correct. Nice car, or so it appears, for $5K. Tells you what the market is doing for sure. Again, grab someone near by and go shopping my friend, looks to be your buyers market. Have fun looking, sorry I am not closer to help.

Typo, that's a 79
That one looks much better. The interior hasn't evaporated, so that usually means exposure was limited. Check for frame & birdcage rust. Climb under it with a hammer and screwdriver and tap & poke on everything.

Just curious what do you mean by evaporated? It appears the door panels are new.
He want 5k but i'm unsure of the "faded" paint. Is that an easy fix?
I think I'll devote a weekend to vette viewing and take a look at a few.
Someone had an ad for a "1979 Grand Sport" and it said "Only one ever made by GM" and the price was 500,000 OBO so for kickers I offered 6k and he emailed me back saying I'm a smart *** and that isn't an offer at all to him
I took another look at the 79 pictures and you will want to notice the T-Top weather stripping looks broken as does the weather stripping on the passenger door. Great suggestion on the hammer and screw driver to check for rust. Check the bottom of those doors too, with the weather seal shot the water may have gotten in there. Same is true for the T-Tops. Water is the enemy, remember that, and looking thoroughly for signs it has been there is the best first step you can take, in my estimation. If the body looks good, go from there. If the body is shot from rust, run, don't walk, away from it. Front bumper appears to be in rough shape, but thats nothing new. Nice wheels on it.
Have a good time looking and good luck.

I won't hijack your thread but if you have the craigs listing on that one off I would like to see it. My Corvette Black book doesn't suggest there was any such thing, and the forum boys would love to hear about it I suspect. Let me know if you have that posting please.
Thank you.
