I'm an old guy with a brown 1976 corvette and asking for advice on a replacement set of tires. I want to keep the rims and replace the P265/50R-15 99S tires that are on the car. It appears the selection for this tire size is limited to a few like Grand Spirit, Stinger Radial GTS, Cooper Cobra GT, Mastercraft Avenger, & Ventus H101. Please give advice or suggestions on what tire would look best on my car and whether to put the raised white lettering on the outside or not, I'm thinking raised white lettering on the outside. Thanks.
have you been to tirerack.com? seems like lots of choices. I like BF Goodrich but they are owned by a foreign company, Michelin. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I will try to buy American whenever possible.
I use BF Goodrich T/A's and nothing else on my vette. They're relatively cheap and they wear like iron. Most importantly they stick as good as any high-dollar tire I've tried.
You can also order BF Goodrich T/A Radials from Sam's Club (if you have a membership); do it online and have them shipped to your local store. The smallest size available is 235R60-15's, which are almost identical in diameter to the original stock tires. Be sure to remove the center caps and beauty rings ahead of going to get them installed [if you have Rally wheels]; also use a marker to identify where the beauty ring clips must go...so they don't install any balance weight there.
I went with the Eagle GTII's in a 255/60-15 and love them, look great, ride is super, but front tires rub the front fenders and now I need to replace them with a smaller tire. Oh well, I tried.

That's what I have...and love em. But mine is a 235/60-15 and there's no rubbing (even from lock to lock). Had a set of 255's but they rubbed. Good luck!
I also have Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 RWL on mine -
255/60-15 with no rubbing problems. I got mine through
Discount Tire and made sure they found a sent made within
2 months of my purchase date. Check out my photo album for examples.
