It must have been somebody older than me who remembers cotton-cord tires taking a "set" when stored too long. (Don't think you have to worry about that with newer radial tires.)

Yeah, probably dear ole Dad. If it was from the 40's, he thought it was way cool.

Just a final comment on Mike W's point. The poly front sway bar bushings arrived today. Here is the old.

Here is the new with grease fittings.

This shows the twist/distortion of stock rubber bushings described by Mike as they grip the swaybar tightly. They is no rotation on the bar.

These are the new bushings. They are well lubed and will rotate on the bar. And if not in future they are greaseable via the fittings.

My car sat for 8 months while I was deployed. Just pumped the tires from 30 psi to 35, covered the intake and exhaust pipes to prevent moisture issues and squirted some light oil into the cylinders. That was back in 2003 and no issues.

man talk about opening up a can of worms .i just purchased a 78 model-41k mile car that i tried to purchase since the original owner put it on jackstands in ...ok now get this ,,,,,1992. -yep 1992 -i tried to buy the car then and he said no i want to keep it until i retire ...well he finally told me last month after 17 years i could have it .its been in the air the whole time ,and doesnt have any problems ....and yes ive had it checked from front to rear and its ok ....also ive got a buddy with a 76 and it sits almost one and a half inches lower ....so unless someone can show me where it set that much lower when it left the factory (and maybe it did i dont know )im glad this one was on the stands. apparently these cars are much tougher than we give them credit for .....thanks for reading this
