Default power steering cylinder

I'm trying to rebuild my power steering cylinder and have the snap ring removed, but the shaft will not come out. Any ideas on how to get the shaft out. The manual says that the shaft should pull out after removing the snap ring. Not happening. I would appreciate any insite to my problem. Thanks!!

That's because the shaft doesn't come out. It is permanently installed in the cylinder. The only thing you can "rebuild" is the outer seal 'set' at the end of the cylinder. If the cylinder worked at all before removing it, you can rebuild it with the seal kit. The only difficult part of that process is removing the shaft seal that is deep in the recessed bore. Once you get that out, it's a 'piece of cake' to clean it up and reassemble it.

7T1Vette is correct. It doesn't come out. I replaced the seal set on mine last fall and it hasn't leaked yet.
