I have a 71 350. The oil pressure gauge reads 0. I just replaced the oil pressure gauge and blew out the oil pressure line, still get 0 on the op pressure gauge.
Is their a trick to get the new oil pressure line installed? Do I need to remove the driver side gauge panel? Remove the dash pad? It looks like a real pain.
By "blew out the line" I assume you mean put air through it?
Why did you replace the gauge?
I would back up and see if you are getting oil through it.
Unhook from the gauge and pull back through the firewall and start the motor.
You could be plugged at the block.
Hope this helps.
Terry
I checked at the block and get oil out the fitting, Then I re-installed the oil line and get oil coing out at the gauges. When I hook up the old or new gauge, still no pressure on the gauge.
There is the same oil pressure coming out of the line as is in the engine. At idle, that's around 10 psi or so. When revved, it should be in the 30-40 psi range (with a stock GM oil pump/spring). That amount of pressure is pretty easy to seal off with your finger on such a small line, but it should squirt out a pretty good stream if left uncovered. You could have a blockage in the line...or in the gauge mechanism. If you had the gauge and line opened up [at the gauge cluster] before, why didn't you check it out well before putting it back together? Your most likely problem is a blockage in the feed line (you can collapse the line completely if you put much torque on the oil line fitting nut), or a gummed up bourdon tube in the gauge. If you don't find a blockage or line damage at the connection on the back of the engine, you will need to open it up at the cluster to repair it.
