Looks like quarter size spots or where rivets are coming thru on the hood and nose of the 72 Blue Coupe. They are evenly spaced on the front end of the hood and on the nose clip and are really noticable, car does have original paint. Thanks for your help, Mike
Its a sure sign that your rivets are rusting and causing the fiberglass to distort and. Wear it as a badge of honor as you would a frame you can poke holes in with a screwdriver.

Mike,
Its not good. It is a sign of corrosion on that support brace that runs across the back of the headlights, the proper name of which is escaping me right now.
It is alum. rivets that are corroding (white powder). They used the rivets to hold the metal header bar to a fiberglass bonding strip and the strip was bonded to the header panel. There has been a lot of post on this problem here. I redid mine by removing the header bar and using new rivets and applied zinc oxide primer to the rivets to make sure they did not corode again. A lot of people just removed the rivets and bonded the bar directly without the rivets.
Some poeple used a whole saw to drill out the rivets from the top and then fill in the holes. I don't know about this because shrikage could cause the repair to show up in time.
If the paint is ok leave it be for now and repar it when it is time for paint.
I was thinking about you the other day Jim. Still hangin around here?
How's the nova?
Novas well Len, ain't been doing to much to it lately as it's been irking me a bit Not sure if I told you but i bought a 67 Chevelle SS and it was taking up a bit of my time......till it bored me(due to no funds )...... and now I have my Vette home(I can only fit 2 cars in) from my mates place(it's been there for 3 years ) and have been doing some work to it, as much as I can while waiting for vendors to send me stuff that they have on back-order Do vendors actually stock parts anymore

Hi Mike,
On occasion the bumps can be seen even if there is no rust. The fiberglass shrinks after 35+ years and the rivet heads show. Fiberglass is an odd material to make a car body out of.
Regards,
Alan
Caused by electrolysis between aluminum rivets and steel header panel used to hold headlamp assemblies in the car. The header was riveted to a piece of fiberglass bonding material and over the years electrolysis causes corrosion of the rivets to displace them and cause the unsightly "warts" you are now seeing. My 72 LT-1 has just contractd this disease.

I've seen a few on the nose, but I've never seen this on a hood.

Hello, the paint is original and I just purchased this 72 this past weekend and I do not know if I will have it fixed or if I will sell it. The owner has had it for 35 years and did not drive it much in the past 10 years, the only good thing is that he did keep it original and it has 60,000 miles, Regards,,Mike
