Thanks. I can see how it would be a past topic of discussion. Found a perfect 69 but for the rack. Not that the rack is stopping me as I've already put a deposit down.
I kinda like the look, partly because I grewup watching the route66 tv show and their car had a rack, and they do come in handy for chairs or T-top storage during trips especially when the wife starts packing "necessities " behind the seats .

I removed mine when I redid my car. I got black plastic plugs at Lowes that fit the holes perfectly. They just snap in. And being that they are almost flat looking, and about the size of a dime, they blend in well. I have had them on for the past 3 years now, and not once has one popped loose.
When I first got mine both th wife and I thought the rack should go, but now it has grown on us and we kinda like it....and it does come in handly for chairs etc...
Just curious about what most of you think about luggage racks. I personally don't like them and think they take away from the total look of the car.
After I finished my restoration I wasn't sure if I should put it back on, glass the holes over, or use plugs/bolts.
I was told if you glass the holes over that they 'may' become slightly visible where they used to be later down the road, due to heat and expanding/contracting of the fiberglass and paint.
At first I used the black plastic push plugs for a few months, then decided to try it with the rack on for a while; needless to say the rack is still on. I didn't think it took away too much nor added too much with it on or off IMO.
Not to mention I couldn't find any aftermarket 4-hole racks that would fit, and after some shows got tired of people asking me what the plugs are for.
IMO, they look pretty good on dark colored-coupes 1973 and earlier. I'm not fond of them on verts, light-colored cars, or C3's with rounded-off rear ends.

Here's a few pics of mine with and without:
Here's a thread I started last year when I was undecisive about it; quite a lot of good replies about what you're looking for on peoples thoughts of racks:
Are the wood grain sections inserts? Plastic? Stick on?
