Default Luggage Rack

Just curious about what most of you think about luggage racks. I personally don't like them and think they take away from the total look of the car.

Thanks. I can see how it would be a past topic of discussion. Found a perfect 69 but for the rack. Not that the rack is stopping me as I've already put a deposit down.

I'm thinking about removing it. Large chrome bolts and washers to cover the holes?

Personally I like them on coupes. I think they add a little bling. Plus it gives me somewhere to put my bag chairs when going to car shows.

Don't mind it either way...it wouldn't stop me from buying a nice car just b/c it had a luggage rack.

I kinda like the look, partly because I grewup watching the route66 tv show and their car had a rack, and they do come in handy for chairs or T-top storage during trips especially when the wife starts packing "necessities " behind the seats .

I removed mine when I redid my car. I got black plastic plugs at Lowes that fit the holes perfectly. They just snap in. And being that they are almost flat looking, and about the size of a dime, they blend in well. I have had them on for the past 3 years now, and not once has one popped loose.

Took the one off my '69 almost immediately after buying it. Bodywork and paint rather than big chrome bolts.

I have always liked the luggage rack on any kind of corvette. The more chrome the better!

If your gonna remove it , do it right and rework the back deck.

Personally I like them about as much as long horns on the hood.

After I finished my restoration I wasn't sure if I should put it back on, glass the holes over, or use plugs/bolts.

I was told if you glass the holes over that they 'may' become slightly visible where they used to be later down the road, due to heat and expanding/contracting of the fiberglass and paint.

At first I used the black plastic push plugs for a few months, then decided to try it with the rack on for a while; needless to say the rack is still on. I didn't think it took away too much nor added too much with it on or off IMO.

Not to mention I couldn't find any aftermarket 4-hole racks that would fit, and after some shows got tired of people asking me what the plugs are for.

Here's a few pics of mine with and without:

Here's a thread I started last year when I was undecisive about it; quite a lot of good replies about what you're looking for on peoples thoughts of racks:

Edit: Would have just linked the website, but pic's not there anymore since I changed websites.

But seriously, I do like the look of a luggage rack on a vette.

IMO, they look pretty good on dark colored-coupes 1973 and earlier. I'm not fond of them on verts, light-colored cars, or C3's with rounded-off rear ends.

it depends on the 'look' of the car...

usually i find that luggage racks 'blend' better if you have chrome sidepipes and clean rims...

if you like the 'sleek' look then i would take it off......
