Default Comparing Colors: Diff. Year, Diff. Name, Same Code, Same Color?

In researching the '68-'72 Vette colors, I had a question of how the different colors compared. Most of the differences are pretty clear, but since the colors on computer-displays can be deceiving, I had a few questions:

* When the same code is used for colors across different years, but the name changes, are the colors still identical?

So for:

Code 972, does '68 Polar White = '69 Can-Am White = '70-'72Classic White?
Code 974, does '68 Rally Red = '69-'70 Monza Red?
Code 976, does '68-'69 Lemans Blue = '70-'71 Mulsanne Blue?
Code 979, does '70-'71 Bridgehampton Blue = '72 Targa Blue?
Code 983, does '68 British Green = '69 Fathom Green = '71 Brands Hatch Green?
Code 984, does '68 Safari Yellow = '69-'70 Daytona Yellow?
Code 986, does '68 Silverstone Silver = '69-'70 Cortez Silver?
Code 988, does '68 Cordovan Maroon = '69 Burgandy?

* What would be the difference (darker/lighter, tint, intensity, etc) between the following colors which use different codes:
'69-'70 Monza Red vs. '71-'72 Mille Miglia Red?
'69-'70 Daytona Yellow vs. '71-'72 Sunflower Yellow?
'69-'70 Cortez Silver vs. '71 Nevada Silver vs. '72 Pewter Silver?
'70-'71 Mulsanne Blue vs. '72 Bryar Blue?
'68 International Blue vs. '70-'72 Bridgehampton Blue?
'70 Donnybrook Green vs. all the Code 983 greens?
'70 Marlboro Maroon vs. both Code 988 Cordovan Maroon/Burgandy?
'68 Corvette Bronze vs. '70 Corvette Bronze?

* And finally, I'm guessing that the '70 Code 991 Ontario Orange is the same actual color as the '71-'72 Ontario Orange? And that these are more bronzish than the '69 Monaco Orange?

For sorting out all these differences, no amount of pictures on the internet would replace an experienced eye that has seen these different colors in person, so any insight would be appreciated.

Hard to say. My '69 Daytona Yellow coupe has mostly original paint. I have seen other 69s in various shades of yellow, obviously repainted. I have also seen repainted '69s that are dead on, even in base coat and clear coat instead of acrylic lacquer. I believe the '68 Safari Yellow is a slightly paler shade, but then again the ones that I have seen could have been repainted.

interesting question... i'd be curious too. you obviously spent some time writing the post so hopefully someone can chime in . personally i have no clue but what i DID notice when looking at the variations in all the codes in the "black book" from year to year is that the names got less creative and more mundane.

ie:

1968 - "Rally Red"
1982 - "Red"
1968 - "Tuxedo Black"
1982 - "Black"
1969 - "Riverside Gold"
1982 - "Gold Metallic"

WTF!? I guess it was due to the fact that the *trippy 60's* and *swingin' 70's* were over and it was now time for.... gen x!
