Appraise this car...

Many of the ones I am talking about are not dealers but just people with one vette,
So the dealers you speak of that just trailer the car home and price it double or triple what they paid,
How do I cut them out and find the car at it's best price?
Yeah what PTguitar said. Keep in mind when looking at "project" cars that are incomplete how much is MISSING.
Needing to be rebuilt is one thing missing is another. If you take a good look at that red convertible the car needs a motor and trans but NOTHING is there. It needs everything on the front of the motor also. Where's the rest of the A/C? OK so it's a convertible so you can live without A/C but then you're stuck with an A/C HVAC box and NO A/C.
Cars like this are not good for guys like us. You need to be a Corvette shop that has access to used parts and parts cars to put something like this together without breaking the bank. Unless you can do almost everything yourself or you have a doner car run away from these things. By the time you're done building one of these you could have cut up a perfect car and been into it for less money.
That's just my take others will differ but be forewarned before you take on something like this.

That's why I started this thread and it sure is one of my all time best as far as how much valuable information I am getting,
While I have the skills and experience to build a vette from the ground up, I don't want that size of a project, I want something less than perfect that I can tinker with as I drive it,
Most all what I am posting in this thread are ones I want to learn off of not really ones I have interest in, here for example is a car that I "might" have had interest in but it seems pricey for a car that seems to be a true fixer-upper to me, here it is,
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1225677724.html
So go ahead and give me your thoughts does that price reflect the car?
That's not what you want either.
That's another money pit. The car needs complete restoration. Take a close look. Lots of body and paint work, all the weatherstripping is carcked, LOTS of surface rust, and why buy a car that you're paying for numbers matching components. You want a "custom" right? You need to find someone else who has a "custom" that is a "fire sale" and turn it into what you want.
They're out there. Just keep looking.

Here is one I really gave consideration to,
Not a flip front end but very radical,
I don't like the rear end treatment much at all, nor do I dig the tall skinny wheels,
But the 80 style interior was trick and what I want,
In the end I just didn't feel this was a 12K car.....perhaps to someone but not to me,

As far as the second car goes yeah way to much.
I know that radical customs are one of a kind and beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I'm not sure even the owner is in love with the rear clip of that thing.
maybe 7K - 8K tops and that may be overboard.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I started thinking about what I have learned in this thread and what it take to get that car up to par and it wasnt worth no where near 12K to me perhaps to some impulse buyer but not me,
At this point it would have to be very sweet in person for me to get off 8K for it and that is taking it right to our shop and reworking the rear bumper which would be down right embarrassing for me the way it is,

The rough silver 69 intrigues me a little, I know people dreaming of taking it to all stock purists state might get off 19500 on some impulse,
It is modded already the hood and lots on the chassis that you dont really see,
The body looks like it is bad perhaps just lots of rotten old paint,
I just cant get past that price, I want more feedback, hopefully our fearless leader vettebuyer will drop by and give me his opinion,

Keep in mind if the price was right I am in the fiberglass/bodywork/paint business I can have the body stripped and fixed ready to paint in a few days, I would leave it as is for a while drive it in wet sanded black primer,
the car is too far away from me to seriously consider plus I doubt the price will flex much,
Still I am curious what would a fair offer on that one be?
