i should be ready for paint this weekend, if my timing chain and gears get here in the next day or two.
You've come a long way!!! Luckily my engine only had a few coats of dirt/oil/grime. I guess you just have to keep scrubbing, and it will eventually come off. I kept going til my hands were about to fall off!
The master cylinder should be raw cast iron. They have spray paint called, "cast blast", it looks exactly like new, raw cast iron when you're done. My all stock '82 has a black brake booster. Well, .....it used to be, anyway.
Great job, by the way! I'll have to let you know when I'm ready to do mine.
Cast gray is the color I'm leaning toward for the master cylinder, but I'm worried about the brake fluid eating up the paint. Do you know of any paint that won't be harmed by the fluid? Also, why do people paint the brake booster gold? I've seen that a few times...
The booster came on a few models in an electra coat. It kinda looked like gold annodizing. If you look at the Eastwood catalog, you can buy a kit to reproduce this finish. No paint that I'm aware of will stand up to brake fluid. It'll be fine for a while, especially if you don't pull the lid off too often to check the brake fluid. (hint: no fluid on the ground = full master cylinder)

It isn't painted gold, actually it is the Zinc coating that is applied to some of them....Like mine.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm going to paint the master cylinder with cast blast and the brake booster with semi-black. If I have left over cast blast I might tackle the exhaust manifolds, but they are covered up by those shields so they aren't too visible to worry about...we'll see.
Thanks everyone!!!

Do you have any pictures of your brake booster? Did you do it yourself?
Use the Seymour cast blast (ceramic paint) for the exhaust manifolds, as it is rated for 1500 F; I used it and it works great....bakes on from normal manifold heating. Since you won't be able to heat up the M/C, I don't recommend the Seymour paint for that; use VHT or other engine heat rated 'cast iron' color paint for the M/C. You're doing a fine job...
Thanks!!! Yea I was scrubbing for a few hours til it got dark. Then I painted the valve covers which was not fun...taking them out sucked, but seeing them look better is well worth the sweating and back pains If I ever loose my oil cap I'll send you a pm too.
OK, if you ever need them just let me know. Their free.
