Engine Compartment Before & After

After many hours of much needed scrubbing with a toothbrush, a gallon of purple power and some paint:

I still want to paint the brake booster and master cylinder. I'm just not sure which color to paint them.
Well, you don't have to do it just now....you can enjoy the fruits of your labor for a bit. But put those items on the TO DO list.
Nice job!!!

If I ever loose my oil cap I'll send you a pm too.
Once you get started there's always something else to be done...I have a lot left to do on mine too. Thanks!
Great job, by the way! I'll have to let you know when I'm ready to do mine.

Well I'll be glad to help whenever I'm finished everything on my to-do list that keeps growing...all of these "while I'm at it" projects!

I know this is gonna be long, but I want to share the process with anyone that plans to do this:
First, I cleaned up what I could with old rags. Then I got a huge thing of purple power cleaner. I covered the alternator, carb and distributor with foil and went to work with my toothbrush. After scrubbing all over for 3 hours, I was pleased with the squeaky clean appeal, so I hosed off everything. Then the valve covers looked sad, so I took them out the next day and primed and painted them and put in new gaskets. The next morning I put my car back together. All together it was around 3 hours of cleaning, an hour to take out the valve covers (have to remove all kinds of stuff to get them out
), 3 hours to sand, prime, paint and bake the covers and put the gaskets on with high tack sealant, then an hour to put everything back together...I guess 8 hours total which is well worth it considering I am now happy to pop my hood!
